View Full Version : Guild Wars question...

I just started playing GW about a week and a half ago and was curious if anyone could tell me a few things...
Does the RP side of the game get at all interesting between levels 9-20? So far, everything between 1-9 was dull and boring (yes, I understand it is ment as an introductory period in the game). I like raining arrows with my H/W, but so far the story is a bit lackluster and I'm beginning to wonder if there will ever be suitable grinding ground beyond level 9. Everything seems to be too broken up, someone please assure me it will get better. PLEASE~!
I don't want to go back to WoW, but if I can't grab this Guild Wars RPG then I'm gonna have to go back. It's just so... like, bleh. I'm sure once you hurdle to 12-15 it gets a bit harder and interesting... right?

Yes, until you get to 20 and you have to do missions that require a good group, where it sucks.

when you hit the desert, that's when you need to be a little more picky on groups or you'll end up stuck there for a good week. the southern shiverpeak missions will also be somewhat of a bitch, but you'll be able to start collecting elite skills.

it gets more challengeing and generaly better after you get out of asscolon <purposefull mispelled> feel free to take some time to PvP in the areas while your doing PvE, its a nice cool down after long trecks threw the outside

Yeah I got the accout from friend who doesnt play anymore. They changed a lot since beta...but so far I find it diff to do missions without a good group (dont really wann ause henchmen).

Just to make sure, are you doing the story missions? Its easy to not realize that they exist early on in your GW experience. There are story-driving missions that are tied to specific mission locations. Usually completing a mission will take you to the next mission location. Go enter the Great Northern Wall mission (you can do it with henchmen if you want) and you'll see what I mean.
He's talking about the side quests ^^ & outside world. The story driven missions = fun :)

they're fun until you've attempted them 9-10 times

You only attempt them 9-10 times if you're a retard.
Except maybe the last few in the game, those are actually hard.

the hardest quest in the game is the one where you defend the fort with the ignoramous dwarf king

I've been doing most of my side questing with henchmen. I've been doing primary (aka story) questing with groups of live people. And so far, it's pretty bland (granted I've only just passed the northern wall scenario and bunker defense quests). The side quests are remarkably unrewarding other than fiding places to farm chests and miniscule amounts of gold so far. And they are also not difficult. Especially in areas where I've gone up against 8+ level 9 Char.
I'm using a Ranger/Warrior right now, with my primary skills thus far emphasised on marksmanship for group effect. The only warrior skills I employ are frenzy (much faster striking) and some of the sword pierce and bleed attacks (gives me ability to use a shield to help my measely defense). And with the henchmen, this usually gets me through quests (so far) rather easily. And if they die off, I have a beefy little pet who strikes for about as much as my warrior henchman does.
I guess the story just isn't grabbing me, I played through the presear ascalon three times already to try and find something I missed... but everything is accounted for and somehow I still don't care about why the Char broke the wall. Maybe there is something in the manual I should read?

Yeah, it's called involved gameplay? I don't think I've played one game just to go straight through it without knowing the story behind it. Even in pointless repatative games like Mario, there's a storyline you can follow.

It is impossible to get a pre-searing bear (it might not have been in beta, but it is now). You can get bears in the southern shiverpeaks if you get that far into the game.
As for the story, you're right, it isn't the BEST, but it certainly is satisfactory. Bear in mind that pre-searing has no purpose except to familiarize you and get you a few skills. If you've only done the first two missions, then do more. It gets more interesting as you go, and you aren't in Ascalon for long.

This is the answer to my original question in this topic, and thank you for giving me your opinion of it. I don't mind the ascalon part of the story so far, but it's vaguely veiled storyline and I'm sure there might be something more I can read about on the homepage as far as storyline goes. I just don't know the story behind any of the events pertaining to the Char breaking the wall. I guess I'll have to figure it out as I go.
Speculation upon the charr invaision has long since debated. The best theory I believe after hearing was the charr lived up north in the swamps, where there alter and various other camps are. They had to invaide asscolon to evaid the Hydra and Aboliths for they lack the fire resistnce to compete with the lvl 10 creatures. Hence they fled there tar pit dismal home land in the only direction they could (south) and met the green lush fields of asscolon.
BTW: best pet ever witnessed is the rabbit from pre-searing. Completely useless for it lacks the HP, but is extremely funny to reference Monty Python while in battle. Sad to say not many people have been able to woo such a pet and keep it.
I also find the storyline take on whole new shapes and lighting when the RP is done with different character. I've known E/ME chars finding themselves in despair when PvE and in worse shape for PvP. While most W/Mo are just too damn arrogant to even bother with. Even the Monks have an aura that obscures there vission during missions. As you get past Asscolon and into N. Shiverpeaks the storyline will let you run free as you please. However, once you pass Kryta you will know your place in the party and in Tyria. As a R/W's life is not very fun until the Fire Islands and the Under World so bid your time and do the Missions professionally.
NOw I must be off to try a new combo... R/Me?!?

umm Toel, if you EVER see someone with the Rabbit from teh waterfall behind Ashford in pre-searing send me a SS.
Cause I SERIOUSLY doubt you saw it with someone as a pet considering its classified as an NPC.
I see a R/Me being a nasty inturpution combo, but given some of the higher costs of the Mesmer abilities, id say a Me/R would be better...then again you lose armor going that route
Anyone feel like heading into northern ascolon in post-searing. Fighint off hydras and Abominations are fun. and I SWARE there HAS to be SOMETHING up there. Enterence is behind the place you get Altheas Ashes from incase you didnt know about it.
