Starting later this summer, Valve will be conducting a limited-time beta of Counter-Strike: Source via Steam. The beta will first be open to subscribers of the Valve Cybercafé Program, and then extended to owners of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero. The next installment of the world's number 1 online action game, Counter-Strike: Source blends CS' intense teamplay with the advanced technology of Valve's Source engine. I just asked in the cs:forum's mod forum if we can beta test.

Now I wait to see what cliffe says...

We as in Gamehavoc? Or we as in "cs forum mods"

The latter... but I suppose I could ask for both.

Now, the real question is whether the beta test will be extended to all owners of cs:cz... or a smaller number selected from those that own it.

The wording is a bit ambiguous.

mad to play CS and not own CZ if you ask me

Tons more fun, but a moot point seeing as all HL games are dead

I think I'll download it

Wait a second spurty... let me see if I can get a key for you from cliffe. Since I bought my copy, I never used my "hey, I'm a 1337 cs forum mod and I get a key for cs:cz for free" key.

another cheap ploy to get people to pay more money for cs.

dont you have to pay for those cybercafe licenses? even though you already own all the games, then you gotta buy CZ if you wanna join this beta.

so gay. ill just wait till someone leaks it.

they would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for that annoying potsmoking kid ... and the fact that CZ is different from CS, albeit it hard to tell by the average man on the street

Gasp!! forcing people to pay a monthly fee for games they already bought.

nothing wrong with selling a game and expecting to get paid for it, but forcing cybercafe owners to pay a monthly fee on top of buying the games at retail...thats kinda gay.

what if valve told you you had to pay $25 dollars a month to lease hlds? would you still hold your same stance on the issue?

I already pay $150 for the server. $25 isn't much more, since I used to pay close to $300. I haven't researched the cybercafe deal, but I somehow think $25 is justified, since the cafe owner gets (presumably) increased patronage from offering the game to his/her customers, whom don't have to buy the game themselves.

I'm also no stranger to pay-to-play games, which currently cost me about $45 a month between various subscriptions. No, I don't think my stance would change.

Valve is constantly updating their products, years and years after their release, and listening, quite intently I might add, to the community.

If Valve wants to charge me monthly to play CS, they frggin' deserve it. What you're talking about right now, in my opinion, applies to single player games. I think software companies are justified in charging for multiplayer games that have to be constantly updated.

your points have been noted, and while i will change my stance on the cybercafe owners a little bit, i think that since theyre gonna be leasing the games on a per month basis anyway then they should get a discount of some sort since they already bought the games. and new subscribers should get the games for free with their licensing agreement. the things i dont like are the charging monthly for the right to play the game online like with mmorpggggz and then having to buy the game at the store for like $49.99. if im gonna pay you every month for the right to play your game, the least you could do is give it to me for free when i first get it since i cant do sht with it anyway unless i pay you.

why should i have to pay $50 for it at the store then pay 10 dollars a month to play it?

i like the fact that valve still supports their halflife mods after all these years, thats really good of them. but were not playing on valve servers. i would be horribly upset if valve all of a sudden decided i have to pay $10 a month to get on steam, so that i could then contact a server such as tfc to play cs.

Ummh... when you buy an MMORPG you normally get a couple of months free before you have to start paying. So, it evens out.
