Mozilla firefox is the shiznit, boi.

This has been known for about a year. Mozilla has been a favorite for a number of years. If you are interested in another browser try myIE2. I have never used it but have friends who live by it. Im gonna always stick with Firefox, Firbird, or whatever new name they come up with in the future.

Sticking with IE. It does everything I need and I've never gotten a virus or worm or anything. But maybe that's because I tend to practice "safe browsing" and just don't go to the type of sites that tend to cause such infestations without first adjusting security settings. Ie, warez sites. I don't go to them, so whether or not I have a popup blocker installed doesn't bother me.

There are just so many features about it that I like...

like how it always displays favicons properly in my bookmarks (gamehavoc doesn't have one btw... FIX THAT!)

or how you can have multiple sites open in the same browser window via tabs...

Just, a lot of stuff...

Tabs are the answer to everything :-) If it has tabs ill use it.!!

And I like that I can right-click on bookmarks and open them in a new window or tab.... something lacking in IE that always pissed me.

But you see, the only thing Firefox advocates ever really mention (Even more than security) is OMG THE TABS. I don't need or want tabs. I honestly prefer to open a second, third, fourth IE window. In fact I do it daily, at times as many as 20 windows open if I'm being silly and trying to read every article in some news archive.

And I've never had an issue with favorite icons for webpage in IE.. Mine work fine.

Well the reason I use Firefox is because I use it on all my other Operating Systems. Linux, OS X, Windows. Can easily keep my bookmarks the same on each different OS. I also enjoy the fact that it has its own pop up blocker and does not have any Active X support (that right there is the kicker and why it rules).

See above reasons, but I don't need a popup blocker either, just something to eat CPU. I keep a tight security scheme on ActiveX, everything prompts or is outright disabled, because I refuse to completely disable a good sized portion of the internet.

Similar reasons to why I don't use Linux as a desktop. I'll advocate it for a server all day, but it doesn't do what I want really. Ie, support for Macromedia Flash and Shockwave and such is sketchy at best. I don't really care about either, but if I come across them, I want them to work. Until they do, I'll stay in my happy IE cacoon that has never been penetrated by the Evil Dark Jedi Worm Viruses in the past 10 years :)

As far as memory and cpu usage go... IE and foxfire appear to behave nearly identically.

Foxfire seems to have nearly the exact same functionality that IE offers... with some other added niftiness.

I could care less about pop-ups and active-x either.

There are just some neat options and extras in the interface that make it easier than the already-easy IE. I'm not trying to sell you anything, ferret.... down, boy!

I'm on a crusade against..er.. I don't know how it happened but anti-MS people :P I got so tired of hearing about linux desktops and firefox on some other forums I started arguing against them :P Goddamn hippy zealots "omg bill gates anti-christ" linux will save you type people.

Linux is good. Linux is great. Linux is NOT superior to WinXP Pro as a desktop operating system. I like playing my games, thanks much :)

Haha, I think you need to take it easy, you're acting more defensive about it than me ;) I'm merely pointing out that IE isn't the demon people make it out to be. Stupid users are the real evil :)

True, hence the reason I use different OS's for different functions.

yup. all irc links get open in mozilla on fedora.
irc links = evil

That reminds it. I've had some mIRC virus for some time now, I should probably get it removed. Anytime I connect or disconnect servers it does a popup asking for me to choose my foobar2000.exe, but I always just close the window :P

Probably just need to reinstall fresh, but oh noes, I'd have to reconfigure everything!

ie is distributed freely with computers or was and so people use it. Therefore viruses and such are targeted at it and security holes are found. And before you say well firebird can have the same problems, yeah it could, but ie is such in a general usage that it is very to target that. So badddddddd. Plus microsoft takes like a week to fix the problem.

Ferret (and others),
if these two articles don't convince you to move away from IE as soon as possible, then you should just toss your computers into the nearest lake.

The articles don't concern me. While the first one is new to me and certainly shocking, once again: I practice safe browsing and do not feel myself at risk of coming across this exploit, especially since I keep all my virus scanners and such up to date and security fairly high. Sure, I could still get it. But I don't consider it a high risk.

The second one I've read. I would listen to it more but the guy ended up coming off to me just as a jackass who hates Microsoft anyways. He chose the wrong tone to convey his message and instead turned it into a "haha microsoft" type rant.

Anyways:

Multiple Browsers Frame Injection Vulnerability
A moderately critical 6 year old vulnerability has been discovered in multiple browsers, allowing malicious people to spoof the content of websites.

The problem is that the browsers don't check if a target frame belongs to a website containing a malicious link, which therefore doesn't prevent one browser window from loading content in a named frame in another window.

Successful exploitation allows a malicious website to load arbitrary content in an arbitrary frame in another browser window owned by e.g. a trusted site.

Secunia has constructed a test, which can be used to check if your browser is affected by this issue:
<http://secunia.com/multiple_browsers_frame_injection_vulnerability_te st/>

Industry Recommendation:
Do not browse untrusted sites while browsing trusted sites.
[Internet Explorer ] SA11966: <http://secunia.com/advisories/11966/>

Secunia security advisory from today. IE is not the only browser affected by the frame injection vulnerablity. That makes the second article somewhat null. Go find out if yours is. Yes, some don't have it, but it is more than just IE.

The full advisory:
http://secunia.com/advisories/11978/

Listed software as possibily vulnerable (I did test firefox 0.9.1, which is safe):
Internet Explorer 5.x for Mac
Konqueror 3.x
Mozilla 0.x
Mozilla 1.0
Mozilla 1.1
Mozilla 1.2
Mozilla 1.3
Mozilla 1.4
Mozilla 1.5
Mozilla 1.6
Mozilla Firefox 0.x
Netscape 6.x
Netscape 7.x
Opera 5.x
Opera 6.x
Opera 7.x
Safari 1.x

The vulnerability has been confirmed in the following browsers:
* Opera 7.51 for Windows
* Opera 7.50 for Linux
* Mozilla 1.6 for Windows
* Mozilla 1.6 for Linux
* Mozilla Firebird 0.7 for Linux
* Mozilla Firefox 0.8 for Windows
* Netscape 7.1 for Windows
* Internet Explorer for Mac 5.2.3
* Safari 1.2.2
* Konqueror 3.1-15redhat

The safe ones:
The following browsers are not affected:
* Mozilla Firefox 0.9 and later
* Mozilla 1.7
* Opera 7.52

So, once again, just like with Windows in general, the only people safe are those that constantly do updates and upgrades. The general populace that never does such things or worries about it or even knows about it is at risk with the older versions of those clients.
