Check out the screenshots people, it does look nice and smooth. This is one I will be getting. I always wanted to get into a massive multiplayer, just never wanted to pay monthly for it.

Let's try to keep Guild Wars stuff here, not in the WoW thread.

They expect the game to be out by year's end, so by summer some sort of Beta should be going. You have three days to play the pre-alpha during E3.

How they make money? I think its on their site somewhere but I'm not sure at this time.

I think the way they will have this payed for is not by the usual monthly subscription, but by haveing you buying and DLing mission packs.

at least that makes the most sense to me.

Also I jsut read there arent any seperate servers or shards, its all on one massive one

i got through all 5 missions with 2 chars (hehe played it almost non-stop). i can't wait till they open the beta version for testing to the public (was stated on their website i think) near the end of the 2004 year.

mission one was easy, 2 was difficult unless you didn't have a tarded team (i had to do it like 7 times) 3 was a cake, 4 is rather difficult (if you can't cast attack spells or use a bow you are almost useless) and 5 is REALLY hard if you don't have at least 1 monk 2 tanks and a ranger.

the reason your character is so good is because you start at level 1 with level 15 gear =p its just meant to show people the basic way the game wll be, i think it looks good though

Zantas

It handled like Diablo but with a closer perspective. While the graphics are pretty controling your character is a pain in the butt. The chat system is buttcheeks and it has a lot of little fine tuning that needs to be done. More selections for faces/hair more classes to choose from in my opinion too. Just the little things that urked me. They start you out at level 15 in the little test. Doesn't give you a chance to see how it will play at the lower levels. It's like Diablo meets Lineage 2 / EQ2 / EQ to me, with a bit of WoW. Heheh.

Yeah I was monk on the 5th mission we were playing with like all rangers :? Barely won because one ranger had monk as his second class.

kas i think guildwars is from blizzard (not sure my friend told me) which could explain the feeling of warcraft and diablo.

like i said before, some of the guys from blizzard that made warcraft and diablo broke off to make their own company which is making guild wars

Well. It WAS a demo/alpha for E3. Its not suppose to be fully built :) That's like when the Doom3 alpha was leaked a few years ago and every body said the game was going to suck because the played and beat the E3 alpha demo. omg, this sucks, it was buggy and very short! ;p

check this out. Its a write up of the E3 thingy we played

Seattle, WA, May 20, 2004 – The Guild Wars™ “E3 for Everyone” event, held in conjunction with this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), received a massive response, according to NCsoft® and ArenaNet™. Gamers worldwide created more than 200,000 accounts to play the demo during its five-day run. The unprecedented experience allowed gamers at home to play the Guild Wars demo with and against people on the E3 show floor.
The scale of player response made the Guild Wars demo one of the five largest online games in North America and one of the ten largest online games in the world during the time that “E3 for Everyone” was taking place.

In opening the experience to the public, ArenaNet demonstrated two significant technologies for Guild Wars. The first was the stability of their servers, which supported tens of thousands of concurrent gamers without a hitch. The second was the fact that everyone had a chance to witness ArenaNet’s streaming technology. On the final day of the show ArenaNet introduced a dramatic new in-game event as an example of how they will provide frequent content updates without patching and without charging a monthly fee.

“To have gamers react to Guild Wars in such numbers is simply phenomenal,” noted co-founder Jeff Strain. “It confirms that our core product beliefs – offering a first class online game with no monthly fees, rewarding player skill more than time played, and focusing gameplay on activities players enjoy – truly give gamers what they want. The early demo has inspired such terrific feedback and suggestions that we can’t wait until gamers experience the complete game we are building for them.”

Looking forward, members of the ArenaNet development team confirm that Guild Wars is on track for release in the 2nd half of 2004 and that they are planning additional public Guild Wars events in the coming months.
