So my uncle tells me he wants to buy an ATI Radeon X800 XT Platinum.

the question i have is should i go with the PCI Express or AGP? i have heard that the PCI express is now an early technology and may have problems. Is it only Pentium? did i hear that right? i also hear we dont use the entire bandwidth of AGP yet.

i was leaning towards AMD (Should i not?)

was planning on a 64 bit processor with a monster fan, new case as well.
anyones thoughts would be great. dunno if he wants a shuttle case or not (i know i would).

anwyay your thoughts on PCI express and AGP

I'd go with AGP for now. It'll be another year or two before the chipsets that really push for PCI-Express are out. Give it more time to mature, says I. I'm not sure how many chipsets support it so far, but I know there aren't a great deal of options just yet.

AGP is proven and true, as it were. You can't go wrong with it. Save PCI for the next one.

They are already working on PCI-express 32X
Should be comming out in a year.
I woudl wait for that also.

Also my bro said that PCI express aint good at the moent cause no card are using it properly. so a x800 xt and the x800 xt platinium, youwill have the same result.

The only card that works fine at the moment is the quadro of Nvidia for workstations.

So wait for the 32x

I voted PCI Express, but thats because it is better than AGP. However, currently its hard to find a mobo that supports it that isnt incredibly expensive. So id say if you wanna spend LOTS of cash go PCI Express, but still for now prolly go AGP.

Well.

So my uncle writes me anohter email today. he says "I want the best machine out there. i dont care the cost." he is having problems with his current video card and is ready to upgrade it (its a p1.4)

he wil likely donate his old pc to my grandma, and we'll move that 500mhz off to somewhere.

:)

i <3 to hear , "and i dont care about cost".
thats always fun.

so i get to build him a SCREAMING machine. (lol any suggestions?)

8500 for a computer.. retarded. There's so many other better things you could use that money for.
