Well i jus tbought wires to hook my tv to my computer so i can use surround sound speakers. Now I hook a y connector to the headphone jack and then the other y connector into the line in of my sound blaster Live. Does anyone know why I would be getting all this noise in the background like a low hum. Any recommendations would be a plus thanks!

use shielded cables, keep audio cables away from power cables, don't use cheap y-connectors

Turn off the S/PDIF option in your sounds manager. I had this going on my on-board sound for the longest time and I got TONS of feedback through my speakers. Make sure it's to no digital, which you shouldn't have to worry about if you are simply using a standard 5.1 set-up. Worked for me :)
