When this game releases its standalone Linux server I was wondering if there was any chance we could get it on the GH/Spurtyspub servers. I know Spurty and Blue-Sniper both enjoyed it at the lan party this weekend. It supports upto 250ppl in a (lan)game; 150 is normal for online games. Its loads of fun and if anyone doesnt own it go out and buy it. Most definatly worth the 40bucks.

From what I've read about it, it'd probably require an entire server to maintain. We'd need, A, more income for another server, B, to remove some games. I'm not sure Spurty could run it, because I have a feeling 100+ players would use more than 1.5mbit duplex.

UT2k4 uses 25% of my total resources. NS and DoD can easily be taken down to make room, but if JO needed more than that I'd be hard pressed to provide it.

Well I have an extra computer which could run it. But the question is how difficult is it to get an extra ip address for a computer on the conneciton. We used it at the LAN party this past weekend running under Windows XP Pro and it ran surprisingly alright. The machine also has Linux 2.6.xx kernel gentoo distro on there so when they release a standalone it should be all set. Like i said the question is HD space. Oh and if u do get Joint Ops somehow on there, I already know some ppl who will contribute to the price costs.

The CS servers randomly have players on them, even become full. DOD and NS never do.

although i suspect my cd key works online. i attmpted to setup an account and was successfull to do so...

doh as suspected my keys didnt work... they fit the lock and the door knob turned but alas the lock would not let go! :(

OK the only problem i have with this game... The SNIPER! The scope you are unable to change the distence meters! the Range you cant move it up only DOWN!

I dont know if its just the demos.. or if its fixed in the real game. I will not buy if that dont work.. cause i cant snipe without my Range.

Novalogic has the BEst Sniper Simulation... but i cant believe they messed up that feature.. Maybe its just me.. Please Help in finding this out!!

i dont know maybe you didnt set the keys right but the default zoom in and out is the mousewheel. the dragunov and the scout do up to 12x i think and the 50cal can do 16x.

the snipers are a bitch in this game i hope in the full version they make snipers easier to see. those ****ers are so ****in annoying hiding in the goddamn grass sniping all day long and me running around going hey where the ****a are they sniping us from theyre almost goddamn invisible


still mega fun though delta force forever.

Only thing i see is I wouldnt buy this game for the fact that hl2 will come out rather shortly and i know i will only play it for a month or two. Not worth the 40 dollar investment.

Snipers work fine. You have to be of the Sniper class, and then just scroll the wheel on your mouse (default). If you want to change the Elevation to compensate for the bullet drop due to gravity over long distances you need to also utilize the Elevation meter. To do this hold down ctrl and scroll the mouse wheel. The best way to decdie what elevation to set it to is to use your bonochulures by pressing the B button on your keyboard. Hope this helps.

My stance on snipers in this game is as follows...very well done. They are difficult to be and difficult to kill. To be a successful sniper in this game (i.e. never get seen or shot or killed) you need to take 1 shot. If you miss that shot you have lost your cover and must move. So far i have found a 50/50 split in the game. Some snipers are smart others get their ass kicked by me and Erad. Once you've fired a shot i know where you are for two reasons. The bullet tracers and the acoustics radar. So you better not miss hehe. At the lan party this weekend I was pissed cause the same 3 ppl kept on sniping. After a while i was realizing that with out the snipers this would be a lot easier. Snipers force you to take cover, and move in an intelligent manner between targets. Sure you can drive around in a striker tank and a sniper cant get you, but then you are just drawing more attention from the anti-vehicle ppl. The game has many dynamics and is by far one of the greatest games Ive played. Retail is awesome, and the patch last week added some interesting things like distance values, and fixed the waypoint system. There are clear similarities between it and the original Delta Force (which is one of my all time fav games), but they have added so many wonderful characteristics to it I dont see how you cant like it. It draws upon vehicle usage (which I think is well done and balanced), teamplay, and a steady hand in combat. I love the game...go out and get it (after trying the demo of course).

Yeah that was me in the chopper. I heard 2 loud dings through the chopper hull which were the first two bullets killing my crew. Then shortly after as i tried to pull the chopper to safety I heard the glass shattering to my windsheild just before my screen went bloddy.

Great Thanks Buddy... Now I Can Kill Everyone! Sniping is totally.. Easy I've been Sniping since Delta Force.. all through Land Warrior and some Black Hawk Down. The distence thing was the only thinG I couldnt get working.. And well now you explained i have to hold down Ctrl! w000t ! Cant wait to go back in and play.. Cause recently all i have been doing was going M60 and Taking over all capture points.. lol The fastest game I have been in was a 3-4 min game. We fookin went in and Took over in less than 4 min it was awsome lol.. I took over 2 spots.. it was Bloody Fast!

you hit the secondary action button to bring up the zoom then you can zoom in and out with the mousewheel.

annoying pothead guy, yes you are right. but over say a distance of 1000m a bullet will have severe curvature (it drops). so by using the binoculars to see how far yo uare from the target, you can then set the sniper rifle to a specific distance. IE if you set the target to 1000m you will hit where you aim. if it was set to 500m, the center dot will NOT align with where the bullet hits. if you shoot a wall from a distance you will see it may hit below or above depending on the distance to the target.

lol I've been playing the demo since it first came out. And still am. Have the 2nd version of it. READ THE POSts! lol i mentioned it earlier.

And never feel dumb about Demos.. They are the Best, it helps you get a feel of the game. Would you buy a car, but have never looked at it, touch it, or drive it. Other than just seeing a picture of it online and buying it?

I dont think so, unless your just super rich and you can waste money.

amazing, simply amazing.

bunch of us play each night, we meet up in teamspeak then head into servers. NOthing like getting on a chopper with 4 or 5 of us. Having Erad drop me off to snipe then falcon somewhere else. Ill target the bunker and blue will launch mortars at the front of it and we rush in a take it. That is just one aspect its just awesome. Best team game I palyed yet. Its so much better in battlefield to me because I get tired of the tanks and such and this has more first person shooting. vehicles are mainly used for transportation which is still fun. Heck we loaded a barge with 2 strykers and attacked. Just things like that. I recommend this to everyone. Get it and join up on teamspeak and play with us, you wont regret it at all.


Little warning, if I am driving the dune buggy do not get in. The others can vouch lol, I like to take the road less traveled.

another reason to get it...

i was flying blue in a helicopter and i would hover high in the air over the enemys base and he would just snipe em dead. It was great. Then we would switch positions and i would take my turn. So many things to do gotta love the teamwork.

1) suicide jockey
2) engineer with sachels.

put he sachells in the car. have the suicide jockey run it into the middle of the base. the engineer detoantes it from safety.

or! put the sachels in the enemy vehicles and hide. when they hop in and drive, detonate them. MOST hiallarious. you can then run into their armory and reload :) we also went medic this evening and used the mp5 silcened. hid out at their base and just laid them out. VERY FUNNY.

they cant find you as the mp5 silenced DOES NOT have tracers!! Weeeee

FYI for all who play Joint Operations!!!

Erad suggested an idea to go ahead and do some tests in game. Im gonna host my server and just have whoever wants to join can come in. We are going to see what is most vulnerable to what, and work on some of our tactics that we have been working on together for taking out bases and moving in on objectives. Anyone is welcome. We will probably be on the gamehavoc.com teamspeak, and I can let you know the JO IP if you have it and want to join up with us to test stuff.

Edit: This is going to happen on Thursday when most of us get home from work and such.

im getting a tad annoyed at the game. ironic as it is... too many snipers. they seem to have it to easy sometimes... pegging people off from a distance.. argh!! nice record. w00t.

utilize your smoke a lot more. Whenever I go in for a heal and know there is a sniper I will check how many smokes i have left. Its sometimes hard on smaller maps, but on larger maps it is easy to sneak through your smoke.

Also, if you cant join beat em join em right blue :-P.

FYI I enjoy the sniper element of the game. Granted its annoying, but think how easy it would be without them.

When i got home last night I had a magazine there which I get for free from EBGames. Anyways in it was a coupon for JO. It said if you purchases it between 6/21/04 and 8/x/04 (forget the day) you can get 10 EB dollars. I figure I can use that to put towards the next game I need to purchase. Just thought Id let everyone know incase they recieve the magazine. FYI it is a shitty magazine...I read one issue and havnt looked at it again except for ripping out the coupons.
