I normally don't ask people for help, since I'm fairly self-sufficient and can usually solve whatever problem I encounter on my own. Plus I hate having to ask the masses like this, but this is both urgent and important.
My sister is getting married this August 20th, or rather, is having the ceremony and dinner - she's actually been married legally for a couple years (mostly to avoid being deported out of the USA and back home to Canada, haha long story I'll tell that later). Anyway, up until recently, I haven't been able to find a decent wedding gift for her, especially when she paid around $400 for a new suit for me for said wedding (since my old one barely fits me anymore, since I never bother with fancy stuff).
Being her only brother, I, of course, had to find something unique and special. And something better than the gumball machines we'd always give our friends from high school who got married. =)
Then I remembered there WAS something in my possession that is perfect - one of our grandfather's paintings (http://www.animecafe.net/temp/weddinggift.jpg).
Problem is, it's unframed. So my request for help is, can anyone suggest a good framer in the Toronto area who will not damage a one of a kind, unique painting, and be able to remove the masking tape on the edges? I was thinking of steaming it off, but it is on rice paper and that stuff soaks up water like mad, so they'd have to be REALLY good. And at the same time, I need suggestions for a good frame design for it. I'm hoping perhaps use the other frame design of fake bamboo (http://www.animecafe.net/temp/bambooframe.jpg) that some other paintings we have downstairs use.
And preferably have it done before the 11th, as that's when they come back to prep for the wedding - 300 guests, and I thought Danica's wedding at 100 was huge... and I have to deal with the relatives, some of whom are flying over from Hong Kong and staying here for a week, so I get kicked to the basement. And them asking when will I get married. =/
