All enhancements are useable +3/-3 of your current level.
Red enhancements either can't be used or have no affect on you, due to being too high/too low.
Enhancements higher level are you are more effective then ones lower level then you.
Useable SO's are always better then DO's. Useable DO's are always better then useable trainers.
For levels 25-30 are available from stores in Talos and Indy Port. There's one store for each Origin that only sells SO's of that origin and DO's that are partially of that orogin. However, these stores only sell what are referred to as "Power 10" SO's. These are some of the basic SO's, damage, acc, etc. All the others have to be bought at this level from your contacts. Once you get the contact up to phone call level, he/she will sell you the Non-Power 10 So's (endurance recovery, debuffs, etc).
On selling enhancements. You get more inf if you sell at a store that sells enhancements of the same level that you're selling. Also, you get more inf for selling enhancements of the same origin as the store sells.
Here's a list of contacts, with which ones sell what origins.
http://www.rjcyberware.com/CoH/Contacts3.phtml
That's a very good list that gives you the contacts you have for each level range. Note, that list does not include the contacts in the Hollows and Striga Island.
On Story Arcs:
Story arcs are interconnected series of missions at the end is usually a big fight, archvillian, or named boss. You get more inf/experience for completing story arcs then normal missions, and you also get extra SO's as rewards.
However, you can only have two active story arcs at a time. Check your clues menu. If you have info there and no missions currently completed, they're likely a story arc. Most of the stort arc clues start with something like "it all began with..." Story arc enemies also max out at a certain level, so you might be stuck with missions w/ enemies that give you no to little xp. If you can't get your current contacts to give you story lines, check your old contacts to see if they're still offering you missions.
Sidekicking
If you haven't learned... Anyone +3 levels then you can sidekick you. This makes it as if your character was -1 levels of the person sidekicking you. IE, if a level 50 character sk's your level 22, you're fight as if your character is level 49. However, there's a "sidekick range." You have to be within a certain distance for it to count.
Exempering
Also called reverse sidekicking. In this, the lower level brings the high level down to his level. The higher level gets no xp while doing this, only inf and removal of debt.
XP
If people in the group are too much higher then the enemies, you will get less xp then you would if the group was lower level then the enemies. Reduction scales for level ranges, level differences.
Global Chat
The global chat room Victory Forum (invited you in there) is a good place for general chat, questions, and team ups. As said, this can be high traffic at times, so best to put that channel is a seperate tab.
Chat Tabs
Eh... Play around with shit, find out what info you actually need / want while playing.
CoH forums
The AT and other forums can be dens of villinary, ass hattery, and jackholness. Enter at your own risk. The forum specific forums, Victory, is pretty good for general questions / chat.
The Player Guides forum has some good guides in it.

BUMP.
For Spurty and JAC now:
STRONGLY suggest reading this global chat tutorial:
http://city-of-heroes.livejournal.com/842665.html
I and Eye Devil (he's started playing CS here) run one (if not the) largest global chat channel specific for Victory server. We usually have about 10 percent of the server population (100+ people) in there in the evening. However, it's not usually a massive amount of chatter/crap. It'sa v ery good for CoH info/chat and especially for teamups.

This is a map mod, to show badges, enemy terriritories, and the maze of Perez Park.
Also, atleast he doesn't consider you noobs anymore.
He still calls me a nub.

Yeah, download the map patch. It auto adds the perez map to your ingame map.
Also adds spawn points and notes for factions on the maps, rare monsters.

Gotta be online.
However, you can send global messages / friend requests to people while they're offline.
Scorp/Spurty/Jac:
Highly suggest taking a few minutes to play w/ the chat system. Setting up tabs, binding a key to send to Victory Forum.
Victory Forum is an incredible place to setup teams. The quality of players that hang in the channel are worlds above the average of the server.

Grrrr, I'm at the stage where I think I need a serious PL... Only groups that form in Hollows are like the lowbie level 7 and 8 groups, and on the rare occassion I do get a 10+ group.... At least 2 of the people are ****ing dumbshits! Seriously... Take for instance my last group.... A blaster who was electric primary and fire secondary... spends his whole ****ing time fighting with a fire sword... he charges in to fight before even half the group gets there then wastes the healers time cause he's nearly dead when the controller finally manges to save his ass. Then there is tanker whe had... He just stood there and only attacked mobs that came back to the defenders... The ****ing emp spec defenders were doing more fighting then him!

Welcome to a central lesson of CoH and a common noob mistake:
A contact will give you a mission to contact David Wilcott.
And that's it. You don't HAVE to do anything else there.
:)
When I get home, I'll post a webpage that lists all the contacts you can get. For each level range, you should have a certain number (usually five or six) of non-Hollows/Striga/Croatoa contacts that will give you mission.
For level 10, you can go hunting in King's Row, Sky Way, and Steel solo. There's also Perez Park and Faultline to hunt in.

If you need blaster advice, I can probably help.
Hell, I even got my own school.
Also. My other blaster, Eye Silencer, is level 15 right now.
Just give me a tell, if I am ever on. Which is doubtful.

Got two blasters I've been playing more often.
AR/Dev Blaster Major Rack, level 12.
Fire/Fire Kitty Catomic, level 20. Really wouldn't mind play Catomic more, especially now that she has a cape and has dropped flight for Super Pounce.

SH, i had a little question.
Is there anything to do after the max level? Like multi-groups raids? Or people just stop playing their char and re-roll?

A few:
Never ending missions in the Shadow Shard.
You can now auto exemp into ANY Task Force or Trial (it drops you to the max level of the TF for the duration of the TF).
Other players can exemp you during any mission (exemping is reverse sidekicking).
There's a half dozen task forces that 50's can do.
Missions.
So people still play their main char for awhile.
Also high lvl can drop their lvl to help others i think?
Sounds fun. I might give it a shot some day.
Satanic_Hamster
09-26-2005, 03:44 PM
Yep. Also, high levels can sidekick lowers. You can also set the difficuly slider on lower level friends missions, so you can boost them to the point where they're you're level (through difficulty slider, you can up the level of enemies by 3).
They're also working on it so any character can lower his level at will, making playing with friends easier.
You can also have eight characters per server. On Victory, I have:
level 50 inv./mace tanker
level 47 peacebringer
level 35 knockback blaster
level 25ish fire/rad controller
level 20 fire/fire kitty blaster
level 12 assault rifle/device blaster
level 12 rad/rad defender
level 8 inv./katana controller
Alright.
I just got a 14-days free trial, so i'll hop in with you guys soonish.
What's your names and stuff so i can find you?

Satanic_Hamster
09-27-2005, 05:46 AM
At level 24, 34, and 44, your character can undertake the Respec Task Force. Takes about two hours, if you beat it (it's easy), you can respec your character. Respec is:
The game drops you to level zero, and then you relevel your character up to your current level. You can't change your AT / primary/secondary, but you can rechoose all your powers / slots.
Also, stop choosing stupid names! All of you!
Really suggest reading my first posts in this thread, check out some of guides.
Also, if you guys are starting to hit level 12, you can buy Dual Origin enhancements. If you need some cash, feel free to hit me up.

City of Heroes Contact Guide.
Tells you the contacts that you can/should have for level ranges. And, most importantly for the pre-level 30 game, what origin they are. See first post in this thread for the importance of this, in terms of buying certain enhancements.

Don't worry too much of getting leveling ahead of arcs in the lower levels.
They were meant to be that way.
Satanic_Hamster
09-27-2005, 01:29 PM
Especially with the Hollows and Striga now.
EyeDevil
09-27-2005, 01:33 PM
They should make a flashback system really.
However, you can play another character to get to it.
Level 25-30 is pretty brutal. You need to choose between finishing Striga, regular missions, or beginning Croata.
It is possible to do 2 of the 3 perhaps.
Leveling really begins slowing down in those ranges.
After level 35, you won't have enough to do.

addition hint that needs to be repeated:
Travel power becomes available at 14. Plan on this!
Flight: Coolest but is very slow at lower levels. Scales up as you gain levels. Flight speed maxes out, iirc, with four speed enhancements.
Superspeed: Neat, but some zones have severe elevation changes. This also can be bad news if you have to travel through zones w/ enemies who can one shot you.
Supeleap: My fav, to be honest.
Teleport: Technically, it's the fastest form of travel. Takes more skill/practice then the other travel powers. Taking the flight power "hover" helps teleport.
Health power pool is all but required. Because of the power Stamina. Greatly increases endurance recovery. Six slot it. You have to take two health powers to take stanima at level 20.

Gotta love beating up on lvl 50s when im only lvl 32.
MrErad and I tear up the arena against lvl 50s :-) we are only lvl 32 and 34.
OK almost level 14 now.
Was thinking of taking Runspeed And Fly. is that a good idea?
Also, how many recharge do i need to have perma-hasten?
Satanic_Hamster
09-28-2005, 05:52 PM
Two travel powers are good, but it's usually hard to fit them in / justify them before the 30's / 40's.
Perma hasten takes six recharges.
[gh]Spurty
09-29-2005, 03:55 PM
My Archery character is going for leap, my original healer has teleport, latest healer has fly and I've never bothered with speed due to the fact it doesn't matter how fast you are, if you agro something 10 levels higher than you as you nip passed, they just seem to cream you
Satanic_Hamster
09-29-2005, 05:23 PM
A lot of people take stealth/invis w/ superspeed because of this.
Perma Hasten takes 5 recharges. 6 will make the skill come back 20s sooner before the buff wears off.
Thanks for the info guys.
Had to work a few days so i didnt play much.
I really like the game but one thing i dont really like..people leaving your team after 1-2 missions.
I've been used to playing with the same team (group) in mmo's for AT least a few hours and since this game seems more "casual", people leaving quite fast.
Scorpion
09-30-2005, 09:46 PM
Yeah, CoH is ALOT more casual game. People do 1 maybe 2 missions then bail. Sadly I'm currently among those people due to things I'm doing currently. That's why we need to get everyone up to the same level (I'm almost 16 now) and just group with each other.
J.A.C

im 11 now..but you cant expect people to play 3-4 hours
YEah Scorp, That would be good.
I'm level 14 now, halfway to 15.
I need to complete some task force whenever we can do it. Would really speed things up.
