id Software is cautious about release dates, but they'd never come up with a date so early if it weren't true....this may be it!

Even though I havnt been anticipating this game, im curious to see what people have to say about it after its release. Hopefully the single player will be enjoyable. Since it comes out the day before my bday maybe ill use some cash and get it if i hear good things (probably not cause Joint Ops is too much fun right now hehe).
whats this about multiplayer limited to 4 ppl. wtf is up with that?!

On PC also Ferret. The thing is that More players will take more resource, and I think they want to limit that.
Already a UT2K4 16 players takes alot. Doom3 4 players might take the same resource than a 16 player UT2K4.

No, it's PC also.

GameSpy: Are there any plans to release a dedicated server?
RD: The Win32 dedicated server works out of the box and the dedicated Linux version should be available around when the game hits store shelves. That does not mean it will be available but it should be.
GameSpy: What are the current player-hosting capabilities of the game? Is it still designed around 4 players, or has that been expanded?
RD: DOOM 3 multiplayer is based around 4 players; However, internally it is not limited to that. Mod teams will be able to support more.

UT2K4 Onslaught vs UT2K4 DM/CTF is an amazing difference in resource requirements. DM/CTF takes hardly nothing, about the same or less as CS. But Onslaught is a beast. 210megs of RAM for a 20 slot server and 99% CPU usage when full.

no matter how many people multiplayer - I'm buying it! Gonna have to give up my radeon 9700 pro for something better though. Medium quality, while still good, wont do. Time to beg for some OT at work ;) :butthead:
I downloaded it and the game is awesome in single player.
I got to run it in low quality settings, and i got an athlon xp 2400+ with 512mb ddr ram and a geforce4 ti 4200.
At medium it's running but it's kind of choppy whenever lots of textures appears.
Ill buy it tho, its so fun.

Just a movie of two guys playing Doom3 in coop mode....the only problem is one of them has to kill the other to end. I mean its a hakced attempt and supposedly a lil buggy. Hopefully real support will be given to this style of gameplay :-D

Interesting... For the mod project, I would LOVE to remake Doom I / Doom II levels in the D3 project. That would be a good primer to learn the ins and outs of the editor.

I agree....but I also think that we should wait for the Source Engine to develop anything. I really believe that it will be more Mod friendly with development tools and such.

I don't know where you got this idea that the Source engine isn't going to look as visually impressive as Doom 3's engine... It may not have the dark atmosphere and style, but it's definitely hyper-realistic looking and very pleasing to the eye.

DoomI and II levels would suck on the new engine. There was no neat architecture in Doom or DoomII. The levels were brogins as hell... as per the restraints of the engine. We're spoiled. Those levels suck now... let them go.

Let me correct my statement: They don't exist yet for home/gaming desktops or on the general market, although they exist for workstation solutions. There's also 1gig video cards, or at least there used to be a handful, but you wouldn't want them for gaming, they aren't designed for it.

not true. those guys are idiots if they actually looked at the file they would see it just allows you to use single player maps in dm hence the co-op ability.
by those guys i mean the people at fpscentral or gamershell or wherever he heard it from.

I dont know where you got this idea that the I think the source engine "isnt going to look [good]". I simply said it is a shame that doom3 will be passed up just like that because you have the idea that doom3 will be that horribly hard to work with.
It will be a shame to pass up that atmosphere that is already in doom. And I dont believe that HL2 is as intricate or detailed as Doom 3 anyways. Comparing HL2 trailers to Doom3... Doom3 wins.

Have you played Doom 3 yet? Doom 1 and 2 were more fun. I got bored, ended up watching tv and playing other games all weekend. I'll try it again this week. I don't see how anyone can apply "intricate" or "detailed" to Doom 3. The graphics may be, but the gameplay is entirely lacking in every department.

I agree ferret. I am missing the crazy shooting of dozens of enemies with super unrealistic guns. Doom3 so far is just too slow paced for me. I need more fast action stuff.
Also to make a remark on marsh's comment about not using Doom3. I agree with what you saying that it is a nice engine and a shame to pass up, but remember...Doom3 is going to be a pain to get working with supporing a lot of people on the internet. There is a reason they didnt fully support more then 4 players in it currently.

Ok, for the record:
I want to mod NS over onto the doom engine because, to me, it has the right feel (graphical tetail and flexability) and atmosphere that NS requires.

That makes sense. But I have a feeling that HL2 will serve their purposes better. I bet it can be just as black and dark. Its really easy: You create a shitty lightmap.
I'd wait and see. I expect HL2 to be far superior to the shittiness that is D3. It looks pretty, but thats about it. I need to find a really large open area in the game, because I have a feeling the engine can't handle it.

my friend was calling me names the other day cuz he asked me how far i was in doom3 and im like alpha labs, and he asked when i last played i was like last week, then he asks when im gonna finish it, i said one day maybe. then he starts dissing CS. i cant help it that doom3 is getting boring, walk into room, trigger spawning of monsters kill said monsters find pda, rinse, repeat.

Actually I encountered a couple large areas in Doom3, the Monorail level, not bad on the open area to be honest.
The lighting issue, you get scared after the first couple times, but as it's 'style' doesn't really change throughout the rest of the game, it becomes more of a frustration then a scare factor - you can almost sense when the enemies will pop up behind you. I think they could have halved the enemies and not use the blatant "magically appearing cubby hole behind you with a conviently placed imp" and achieved a better sense of atmosphere.
Like how Aliens vs Predator 1 and 2's first level was like, you encountered no aliens at all, but you'd get more freaked out.
And what the hell is it with futuristic facilities having such a lousy design? I'd hate to be the janitor, all those nooks and crannies.

No doubt. Talk about demon-spawn dust bunnies from Hell! As for the gameplay I agree with what seems to be the general consensus. BORING. I am really dissapointed after at last getting it and playing it. I am like 30 minutes into the game and it is already so predictable. As ThriKreen points out the darkness gets more frustrating than scary right quick.
