Does anyone play this? Its a great game, been out for a long time. I quit WoW and went back to playing it after about 2 years of not playing. Its basically a mmoSIM.
If ppl play let me know, MrErad and agent play also if you looking for some pple to practice with. We play the Axis.
Don't you have to pay for this?

Some newer screenshots of the fun in ww2o
http://www.clanhad.com/forums/album_cat.php?cat_id=2
How does it work?
You make an account, choose a faction then what?
I saw you have a list of missions, you just pick one then go in as infantry, tank or plane and do the mission. If you die you just respawn?
Who decides missions? Can you do em?
Is there any guild in the game? Group of ppl who always joins the same missions together?

Hard to imagine anyone paying a monthly fee for WWII online now that BF2 is out.
-Gary-
Did you see the spec for BF2?
Did you see the screenshots of ww2? heh
Ww2o will run on about every recent computer.
Unfortunately, BF2 wont! hehe

Here is a reply to Fists message to me...I thought maybe other ppl would be interested in the answers also.
Well the game has been around for a number of years and was anticipated highly upon its initial release. The problem was that they were trying to do something that not many other games were doing at the time and it had many problems.
Over the last 4-5 years it has changed drastically, and become a solid game that many ppl play seriously. It is very much a Virtual Battlefield. If you choose to join a squad you will be asked to follow orders, etc and move your way up in ranks (this is all player based and given out by high command). The game also provides the opportunity for ppl to go to 'training' to become part of the High Command for the respective forces (allied or axis).
For the casual gamer though it can also be lots of fun. However, initially it is very frustrating to learn to play as it requires dedication and teamwork to suceed on attacks. The game is incredibly centered around teamplay and following orders (but you of course can go off on your own).
To answer some more of your questions:
Does it look like any other FPS? Gameplay wise?
As an infantry the movement is a little stiff, but you have to remember its not like CS or DoD in that you jump around and stuff. The basics are to stay in cover and move up slowly and sprint open areas only when u need to. The tanks, anti-tank, anti-air are all pretty straight forward and require simple aiming and shooting (along with leading, etc etc). The air is the big challenge and requires the most dedication to being successful in.
Are the controls too realistic it sucks to play or its more dod-ish?
The controls are incredibly realistic (since it is a simulator to a large degree). However, they are not impossible and as long as you have a joystick you will be all set. I have a friend who just bought a decent Joystick for about $30 (http://www.tomshardware.com/consumer/20031024/gamepad-01.html#logitech_extreme_3d_pro_joystick) and he is having no problems. Another friend plays with his older MS Sidewinder Joystick, and I use a Saitek X45. The key to having a good joystick is having someone help you with the keymapping in game (which we would gladly help you with).
Are the planes hard to control? Can you do it with a few hrs of practice?
They arent hard to control, but its like the saying you tell someone when you teach them the game of chess. Its easy to learn how to fly a plane, but difficult to master it. One thing which the developers do provide is a training server to help ppl learn how to use the weapons, and vehicles. We usually hop on there when we feel like we wanna have some quick, fun practice.
Is there lots of players?
Yes there lots of players. The good thing is tha this game is played by people from all over the world so you usually dont have trouble finding a battle to join in on. One newer aspect of the game is that they decided to allow those who have access to the High Command for each force to set military targets. That way there are always concentrated battles occuring. This can be anything from attacking a town for take over, attacking a town to disrupt supplies (a VERY cool and interesting aspect of the game), and defending towns. You shouldnt worry about there being no one online, because it is a continuous battle changing daily there is always something to do.
A few last things to remember is that the developers really created the game to mimic world war 2 in that they keep up to date 'newspaper' articles, up to date status on current supplies, how far technology is coming, etc. All of this changes as a campaign moves forward. Intermission (from Campaign #20) just wrapped up and the map has been reset after a good fight by us(I play the Axis) to push the brits and frenchies off of Western Europe. Now is a good time to give the game a try since both sides start at Tier 1 vehicles again (early 1940), and will have to tech up as the campaign progresses.
Also, the game costs $20 to download (no need to buy in store), and they give you a month for free. Its worth trying if you have $20 bucks to spend. Just remember it takes dedication and dont give up on the game. MrErad, AgentMan, and myself are usually on the GameHavoc Teamspeak server and on IRC if you have any more questions.
Also, hope you dont mind I posted this in the forum to allow others to see the answers to the questions incase they were wondering the same.
Here is a short thread (about halfway down) where Erad talks a little about ww2o also.

BF2 and ww2o are not even CLOSE to the same game. ww2o is based on real physics and replicats all vehicles down to every last bit. BF2 is a complete arcade style game, while ww2o is a Virtual Battlefield that simulates real life 'style' gameplay. They shouldnt be mentioned in the same breath.
Also ww2o is a memory hog...the only thing that you really need to run nicely is 1gb of ram (but thats pretty standard now). Its for the 2km viewing distance hehe.
Thanks for the input Falcon.
Oh you said 1gb ram. What about people with "normal" spec and 512mb? Is the game still enjoyable?

Yes its still interesting...u can play with 512mb and it will be fine...slight slowdowns for large battles. What are you full system specs?
Depends on your specs. You might have an initial spike when loading towns then it will settle down. Right now with all my crappy tasks open + ww2o im using 800 megs of ram and WW2O is using about 530.

I presume this game has improved a ton. When it was released it got horrible reviews and was very buggy. To be honest I am surprised this game is still around. If you enjoy, more power to you. It has to be somewhat good if you are getting people to sitck with it.

Did some research on the game. Didn't see a new review but Gamespot gave ita 5.8 in 2001. Game rankings (http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/467406.asp) says teh average review of the game is 56%.
I also found out they plan to update the graphics and release the game at the end of the summer. Titled something l;ike WWII:Online Battleground Europe. Might be a load of new players once that happens.
-Gary-
I wouldnt go by those reviews one bit. In 2002 the game was completely different from the release and each year after.

First off that was back in 2001...if you read my post above the game has changed A LOT over the last 4 years. Also, BattleGround Europe was just released today and is absolutely amazing. They changed the interface system and now have Brigades in the game.

I'm just playing devils advocate here. If the game rocks, teh game rocks. When people have to fork over $14.95, or what aever it is, I think they need to know the whole picture. I am not telling people not to play.
-Gary-
Yes they need to know the whole truth but the old reviews are no longer the norm and were fixed a long ass time ago =)Lets put it this way though because of how bad the game was back then it almost went out of business but they pulled out and made the game successful.
Falcon, i got an Athlon XP 2400 + 512mb ram + Geforce4 ti4200. It's not great, but it serves me right for now.
Oh also, how useful is a force feedback + twist handle joystick? Can you go without em and be as good?
Fist, Im currently running a 2.2ghz (overclocked) + 1g of ram and a geforce 4 4400. Game runs fine & I can still fly. I think the only aspect you wouldnt be able to enjoy would be the flying. Joysticks twist + throttle = best , anything with force feedback is just for fun. Only place you'll need the twist & throttle is for flying.
Well Erad i just bought a joystick, logitech attack3 without Force feedback and twist handle.
The price was too appealing ;)
I'll still give flying a shot..at worst ill be a meatshield aka infantry guy.
careful with that stick. Heard there is a problem with the X axis that develops quite frequently. So you have a semi throttle on the thing so you should be ok. Do you plan on upgrading the comp anytime soon? hehehe. My system basically meets the min requirements for the game and get around 15-20fps in ground battles which is very playable & in the air i get more.
Yeah i'm planning on upgrading it, yet i dont know when ;)
Maybe after the summer. I've got the funds to pay it cash, but i'm thinking i should be reasonable and finish paying off my car ;)
