A lot of people have been writing in to say they have seen these boxes in various retail outlets all over the UK. Most people are taking it as a good sign that Half-Life 2 "D-day" is now just a matter of time

Most likely both, they really want steam to be used constantly, as they save money on not having to pay for its production. But im buying the box. I need the box.

I can draw on a box saying "Duke Nukem Forever: Pre Order Now!" and it doesn't necessarily the game is coming out. Besides, that's in the UK...where is Valve again? Ah yes, THE UNITED STATES!!

Valve isnt publising HL2. They are the coders, Vivendi is publishing the game and oh guess where they are located? Yeap thats right, Europe.

Yes, Vivendi is in ITALY...so why would the UK pull this off? And seeing how the largest audience is in America, why do it in the UK where the general audience there is like 10%?

10% ? Are you kidding me ? Try 40% of EU games sales from the UK.
I come from the South of the country and I don't remember ever being in a town/city without being a stones throw from a computer game outlet. There were (before EB starting eating them all up in mergers) about 20 different sotres the size of EB over there selling games exclusively. Not to mention, the PC > Console for sales <-- always been true, consoles do badly in the UK

After that, probably Netherlands and anywhere that is in the dark 50% of the year

Italy, France and Germany follow after that.

I do however believe that this little scam has been seen before and I've held in my hands a Duke Nuke'em forever box. I'll believe it when I am actually playing it (and crying that my video card can't take the heat)

Do you have any idea how long Doom 3 and Condition Zero pre-release boxes were available? CZ pre-buys were available for like 6+ months, Doom3 has been out there as long, still not out :P

Urm, i saw an HL2 pre-order box at my local EB Games pre-november of last year... and i'm still waiting for HL2... i'd take this implications of this story with a grain of salt the size of a university campus.

I will believe that HL2 is coming out when I see a fully loaded box in the store or someone who is reputable tells me it has "Gone Gold."

Originally it was April, then June, then Summer...then Fall...then next year...and now finally, the final date set is 2507

its not gonna ship till september thats a fact, and i think they will put it in the middle of the month and games/music/movies usually ship on tuesdays and the secibd tuesday in sept is the 14th, the 28th doesnt seem like a good date, the 7th is the day after labor day and stores will have sales and valve cant compete against other products being half price, and the 21st is not a good day to me. so i think it will come out on the 14th.


but it will definately not come out before sept1st which is a wednesday.

1. No, it isn't a fact. Valve has lied so many times about release dates, this is just another in the library of fibs.

2. You're assuming the date based on what you think is factual knowledge, except you made a bunch of stuff up to come up with a date when Valve hasn't said anything.

2: Valve lieing? ok maybe, but if you dont read every interview or personally talk to them what are u baseing this off of? Vavle has said many times since last year that the orginal 03 release date wasnt going to happen even if the source code wasnt stole. Also, withholding the truth and lieing are two different things.

3: Valve isnt the one to worrie about. From some recent interviews, vavle has stated that the game is pretty much down. Sierra's parent company is the one you should worrie about.

pre-order availability really doesnt mean anything. A few friends and I have had Halo 2 pre-ordered for over a year now, and at the time it didnt even have a release date. Then it was supposed to come out last christmas. Then this spring. Then this summer. Then the fall. Now November 9th. It looks good, but i'm not betting on it actually coming out then.

Game sales reports for 2003 stated that the overall sales margin in EURO is 20% of overall sales, and Japan & the US share a 40%/40% split.

My guess, is that for FPS', the sales are at 40% in Europe because most games are developed/published in the states.
