Wootage, I'm now out of the newbie part. I felt bad for the guys we went up against... It was myself level 7 ranger/monk, and another level 7 ranger/mesmer..

We were going up against a level 5 monk/elem, and a level 6 warrior/monk...

we won 21-0... didn't even lose a henchmen... we killed the primary guys so fast it was just a pure slaughter.

I stopped working on my ranger... Going to make a mesmer/elementalist instead.

As I get higher in levels the ranger just gets weaker and weaker. The skills don't grow as well as they did in beta and looking at alot of the upper skills and elite skills... the class was gutted.

Just got Guild Wars. I do not, however, feel like reading five pages of forum. I read the first page, and I'll join the "guild," I don't really know anything about the game yet. I'm a whopping Level 3.

I have a question... if i'd done all of the secondary profession initiations without actually choosing to stick with each one, would they have taught me the first few skills for each profession? I clicked that I wanted to stick with Ranger right before I had this thought, but I'm sure there's some limitation I don't know about.

Anyway, I'm a Mezmanger, or MezmeRanger, or something, and my character looks Homo-tastic. He also has a Homo-tastic name, say hi to me some time, I'm "Flapper McSparkles"

You don't get to keep the skills they give you for the "test" quests. Each time you try a different one, they take away the other "test" skills and give you new ones.

BTW: is there a special forum for the GW players? I don't see one and would like to start one up if the community would like to participate in other aspects to the game. GvG, PvP, and PvE. Perhaps Xfire is wrong but it appears that people play GW for several hours a week.

I'm really stoked about PvP stuff. I've gotten the feeling that most of you have not tried it yet, and Maybe we can plan a night/time to all show up and see how it works.

I'm Level 10 Me/R with a lot of PvP-useful skills. The arena in Ascalon City is only for <lv10 I think, we'd all have to go to the next level bracket arena.

A lot of you are saying "I'll play PvP when I get to level __," but lets just give it a try even if we'll just get our asses kicked.

FYI: To do GvG, HoH, or PvP successfully or have a chance means your characters should be near lvl 20. The guild I belong to (The Protectors of Tyria [TPOT]) has been doing GvG once per week and are looking to increasing that rate. Over the past few weeks I've learned that the differences between levels is so vast that any lvl 10 char willl die almost instantly.
Aspects to consider is the armor worn by a lvl 20 PvP to that of a lvl 10. I currently wear 60+ armor and can remember back when I was lvl 10 20+ armor was given. Penetration of 20+ armor with a level 20 fire ball is gaurenteed, while a lvl 10 fireball against 60+ armor is like a flee bite in loss of hp (-3 hp o.0). Fire spells are great against the weak charr but against another player Air magic is best because if its 25% penetration and secondary effects of knock back, slow down, blind, etc. Aside from Air magic, the only other option is smite spells or equivilent that negate armor all together.
Another feature is the regeneration rates of HP and Energy between the levels. My Mo/E has a capcity of 50 (energy) and holds 5 to 6 arrows for regen. Compared to fellow characters of equal level, some hold over 72 energy but lack the regeneration rate. The higher capacity is achieved by adding modifications to there weapons. I also understand that as a Mo/E I've a very low HP for lvl 20 (480 hp) that differs from a W/? with 500-700 hp. I've seen a Warriors regeneration rate for HP in excess of 12 arrows. Amazingly I can heal that same Warrior and he may still die due to hex spells and poisons. After taking in consideration for the differences in regenration and capcities it may become quite troublesome to knock down a foe if the spell/weapon only does 0-10 dmg out of 500+ HP.

TBH: I still get my butt kicked on PvP cause Mo are always first to go. So even if you are some leet level obtained only but countless hours of play, it doesn't matter.

OK I was just wonder if anyone else becides me has explored the Dragons Gullet waaay north in Ascolon, its DIRECTLY north of where you get Altheas ashes from. All I know is that place is uber for the ascolon area, lvl 10 Hydras (usualy in packs from 3-5) and a LOT of abominations that like to cast bone horror. god damn thats anoying.

Sure would, I farm there with my Mo/E regularly. But I really was more into the underworld and exploring more of the jungle (bottom left corner) tonight. Those Hydra are troublesome even with my healing spells fully charged. I also have to face down my clone too.

On a different note, Smite Hex and contemplation of purity devestate Me if placing a spell on a Mo. If there is a monk that is worth there position, they will have both or one of the two always equiped. To further my role as a healer I'm currently researching means to remove multiple infections of poison. There should be a spell that can remove poisons with a relative acceptable recharge rate of 5 seconds or less?

Found the Mend Condition spell, and its what I've been looking for 2sec recharge and 5 mana. WIth 5 recharge arrows and 50 mana, I can cast mend conditions an entire length of battle. =)

You're silly... we've got a monk in our guild that has solo healed the underworld. Those are level 28 mobs that hit for around 217. We spend a good two hours in there, dicking around. A monk built properly owns.

I beg to differ. Ranger certainly is useful early in the game. First of all, having a Pet is at its most helpful early on. While it might not ever be the best damage dealer, it is a very good tank if you level it up with you. You really can't deny the value of another target with good HP and AC for enemies to attack instead of you or your healer.

Also, you get the ranger skill Troll Ungent very eary in the game, and it is an extremely useful skill for keeping yourself alive regardless of how well your healer does his job.

Also, Rangers do good damage if you just plan your skills. While they might not seem to do nearly as much as a warrior, you can stack skills on top of each other. Spirit of Favorable Winds for +7 damage, Fire arrow for a few more points, and a few other skills that stack damage along with a Power Shot will take down enemies FAST.

Problem is, in order to do all of this, you have to devote yourself to Ranger, and can't really afford to put points into your other class's abilities.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I almost forgot Distracting shot! Distracting shot has helped me take down enemy healers SO many times. End their skill, and not let them use it for a full minute? Rocktastic.

im a lvl 19.5 ranger with the same bow since lvl 3. not near max damage. i just cant survive without the +5 energy. so if anyone gets a max damage with +energy, let me know!

First of all, i'm level 19 and I find lots of bows, so I don't knwo what HE was talking about.

Also, that +energy ability is pretty dang rare I think, I don't know if I've ever found one. I do, however, have a zealous bowstring you could have if it would help you. -1 energy regen but +1 energy on a hit with it. Pretty decent if you rely on bow skills. I also have a few good bows I've been saving (since I'm Ranger secondary). I'll sell you one cheap if you find me in-game. I'm Flapper McSparkles, and I usually play in the evening.

-1 regen +1 on hit is not worth it. be it vampric or zealous. vampric is only good as -1/+5

I dunno, if you are using a shortbow (which refires the fastest out of all the bows, i believe) it wouldn't be bad.

I'm thinking of dumping some points back into my death magic for my lvl 19 Mo/Nec to play with Death Nova. :P I never seem to find any good rods, and no staves that add up to my rod + focus item. I'm not giving up 23 energy just to do 6 more damage per attack. I find a ton of bows, staves, and swords.

I need to get back to playing my Ele/Mes too and figure out where I want him to go. He's level 15 in the Borlis Pass area if anyone needs a groupie around there when I'm on, otherwise I'm on my Monk.

shortbow is what I use Balefire... There is just something sexy about being able to pepper the enemy monk inbetween distracting shots and other such abilities :D
