Ok, im looking for a new motherboard in the price range of 60-100. What is a good manufacturer?

needs to support AMD Athlon XP and 184-pin RAM
dont need on-board video or audio, but on-board LAN would be good.


Also, where is a good place to buy motherboard/cpu combos for cheap? pricewatch = bad because it lacks info on the mobo.

the gigabyte? well, i think i am gonna go with the asus. I have never had a problem with one of those, so i think i will stick with it.

weekends dont count. if you ordered after the shipdate went out on wednesday then it gets shipped thursday. thrusday -> friday (1 day) -> monday (2day).

Ordered my LeadTek 5900XT last night before heading to sleep. As of 10.45am today (tuesday) it is ready to be shipped via FedEx 2Day. I used the Rush choice just to make sure thx to Blue's suggestion. So if all goes well it will be here Thursday. Enough time to install and OC before the LANstock on Friday :-).

Very very good purchase, Nef. I've got that exact board. Runs like a champ, has everything you need and nothing you don't. Very upgradable. Has SATA which my new hard drive will take advantage of when it gets here (also got that from newegg). And it even came with SATA cables, so I didn't have to buy them. I'll be sticking with ASUS from now on.

SATA is a new standard, improved over IDE.

SATA has been around for a about a year and half now. It is just now becoming more worth it for companies to start supporting it more.

Like any new standard. Of course, it's both a matter of mobo's supporting them, and the hd's being affordable.

Look how long it took for them to phase out ISA slots on mobo's.

Or make all mobo's have an agp slot.

Or seriel connections.

Or, for that matter, ps/2 connections for mouse/keyboard.

Mine left the FedEx ramp three times in two days. Twice at 9.54 on the day it was shipped, and once last night at 8.52. They keep it all just exactly on time. FedEx is good about their schedule. Itll be there when it says on your tracking page.
