ok, got my new harddrive. Trying to install windows, but I am getting an error. It says something like:

Windows has encountered and error and has shutdown.
If this is the first time you see this, restart your computer.
The the problem persists, disable caching and shadowing in BIOS.

ok, i go to BIOS and see:

CPU Internal Cache
External Cache
Video BIOS Shadowing

I have tried all combinations of enabling and disabling these to see what works. I keep getting the error unless they are ALL disabled. Is it bad to disable all of these? Does it affect performance? Is a problem with another piece of hardware? any help would be appreciated.

ok, I take that back. The only time I DON'T get the error is when CPU Internal Cache is Disable. If I have it enabled, I get the error. If I have it disabled, it goes incredibly slow. Does this mean I have a bad CPU? or a bad Motherboard?

did you try disable shadowing and enabling the cpu cache?

also, that's most likely why xp is taking forever to install

the CPU Internal cache is what slowed it down AND what cuz the error when it was on.
