Playing around, level 8ish paladin (fighter/monk).
Most of my armor (all but bracers) are the original set, currently. Only have gotten one piece of armor from a reward.
What's the best, easiest, and most economical way to get new armor?
Hope for it in drops?
Have the armorer make it for you? What's the easiest/cheapest way to get materials? Buy them from the material vender? Break down drops? Little of a, little of b?
Also, where the hell do you get fur?

ack
OK assuming ur STILL in PRE SEARING Ascolan (sp) the ONLY way to get new armor is to find all 5 or so quests and compleat them.
If your in POST SEARING Ascolan then the ONLY way to get new armor happens in 3 ways.
1) try and find someone who will trade for it with you. Sometimes u can get some uniqe stuff but it will cost you.
2) Kill alot of stuff, pick up drops, salvage them, then go to a armorer and have him make u new stuff. Once again, you can trade for materials. (I really need to get rid of my granet slabs...have like 30 of em and no use)
Some marerials you can ONLY get from the maerial vender. it usually is about a 5-1 raito...example it takes 5 wood planks (I get them from bows) to make ONE peace of parchment (or what ever it is)
As for drops, you NEVER get armor (if you exclude shields). what you can find in drops is gold, materials, sheilds, weapons, and if I remember correctly you can find weapon upgrades (like a new peice of a sword to make ur sword better...havent found one yet.)
BTW SH whats ur in-game character name (or one of them assuming you have more then one right now)
Mines Hawk Walker or you can go by Merlin Grayswandir. Either one will let you add me to ur friends list. Also feel free to join my Guild, only go me and another friend right now and are looking for recrutes

Hmmm... Been selling them, guess it's time to start buying more salvage kits. Character is named Tenar Tushon.

Satanic!!! I told you to salvage stuff yesterday lol. Talk to the armorer in New Ascalon and see what u need for the new stuff in ur set, gonna cost you about 200g + materials (the mats for your head item will be around 200g).

You can get fur squares from any "hide" salvage item that you pick up. You need to expert salvage them to get them, however.
Upgrade components don't drop - they do come in swords, hammers, whatever that you can salvage out.
You CAN get the rare crafting materials (fur squares, linen, steel) without having to make it from the lesser equivilant. All you have to do is salvage something with an expert salvage kit. Usually you can only get rare crafting materials from stuff that is at least blue (stuff that you have to ID).

That's a question I was about to ask.. What's the difference between regular and advanced kits, other then 200 gold?
Advanced just produce high quality items?

They won't ALWAYS produce rare materials, but it is the only way to get them by salvaging. They also are used to salvage upgrade components, which I believe regular kits can't do.

So far....
Not too thrilled with the crafting / buying / economy. Guess I was spoiled by City of Heroes.
:)
Hmm, isn't Guild War mainly a pvp game?
I remember during beta all people did is get the max lvl asap then just PvP over and over.
What's different now?
I might be tempted to get it if you guys play.
I'll so much free time during night shifts.

well since it's retail now there are probably lots more quests to do and more junk to collect as well as more areas to explore on your own or wit h friends (how that sounds like a commercial).

i might buy this. but only because I don't know if I can still afford WoW. I don't have time to play either, to be honest.

the nice thing about GW is you don't really need time to play it Ferret. Even the most casual of players can max out a char in a month. And at anytime you want you can just go to the 5 v 5 arena and jump in a random game ala CS.

Well, that's just it, Scorp. Even if you don't have time to play WoW, they still have time to charge your credit card.

yeah, I'm selling my wow account to a guildmate because I can't afford it anymore. Going to pick up GW as soon as I can.
Is there only 1 server?
And what are you guys playing?

Guildwars has some interesting things:
There's only one server.
All combat zones are instanced.

well also there are 2 modes of game play.
Roleplaying mode lets you make a character and play through the story line.
PVP is like it says, its strickly PvP action. You are already at max lvl and can either create a character from scratch or just use one of thier pre-made character classes

The problem with starting off with a PvP character is that you don't have all the skills that you would with an RPG character. You need to unlock the skills for the class with an RPG character and then you'll be able to access them with a PvP character.
RPG Characters can also get better armor (not sure about weps) from quests as well.

Edit: I broke down and bought the last 20 steel that I needed for the armor. Once I get to the city to buy it... yay!

AND THEY LOOK EXACTLY THE SAME!

Dark Knight Zer0
05-28-2005, 11:02 AM
Use dyes?
the only way to expand your inv is to buy/trade the other 3 holding items (beltpouch and 2 bags) and then for like 500 gold you can buy an Inv Expander from the merchents and use it on one of them. Doubles it from 5-10
I really need one of them -_-
btw who wants to join my guild?

now level 13 R/E at yak's bend :D
it's hard trying to get a party together to do quests. Specially when you can have 6 people in a group. i THINK i'm on my last quest to yak's bend then i can move on to the next continent and tear up some white mantle.

You don't HAVE to do quests. A lot of them I ended up trashing simply because The only quests that you do have to do are labeled Primary and they advance the story/take you to the next mission.
I'd give you any fur squares if I had them... but like you said they're ungodly rare. If I'm on and I see someone selling any, I'll buy them for you if they aren't being sold at an outrageous price for what they're worth.
A couple of friends and I have started a guild. We're just getting stuff figured out and whatnot. Head over to www.orderofthedead.com and check us out, if you wish.

If you want all the skills for your classes you need to do the quests. If your not gonna do the quests you might as well just make a PvP character, then you're lvl 20 and you've got all the skills you'll have by not doing the quests anyways.
Zant i added u to my f list this morning.

Even skill quests you don't have to do, as they're unlocked down the road from a skill vendor.

Just an FYI - You only need to add 1 character from an account for the entire account to be on ur f list. Same thing with guilds, if one of ur cha's is in a guild they all are.

what he said SH
also I made a new Warrior not too sure on my 2nd class...probably the usual W/Mo
as for skills, Id rather do the Q and get the XP with it then have to pay my presious gold for a skill

As I said earlier, once you hit 15 or so, you simply don't care about gold anymore. It's easier to just buy the skill you want.

kud0z has a point, i honestly want to get the missions over with than do little quests for skills n stuff (besides, quests are always pick and choose and get mostly something you don't need).
