The guy ordered the death of over 20000 people. The United Nations estimated that 800,000 people died total. All he gets is 30 years in jail. Come on I think this just makes a joke out of the system. There is no way he should have anything less than 20,0000 counts of life in prision, and that is being modest.

You are intelligent, but you are not wise.
Fact, the average human being can not handle more than 1 or 2 cases of something before things become a blur and the shock value depreciates so fast that killing a million people might be considered less of a crime than killing 1 that the person judging, knew.
i.e. If I kill your father and you read all the facts about how this occured, you would indeed be shocked about it. (I hope so anyway and no I don't wish harm on anyone)
now, in contrast, if I did something that kills a million people you never knew existed and you can't find any details of the crime, and its not 100% certain I was responsible (i.e. I gave an order that was ambigous and someone else did the slaying) then you will probably not be able to see as clearly how heinous the crime. You certainly can't multiply the crime by a millions times of your fathers' death.
ok, I agree, there are always exceptions, you ,might be able to, but that makes you > average person
Ok, this is waffle, but social science type waffle. What do you think should be done in these instances ? Should society be put on trial for allowing these crimes to happen and doing too little to stop it? How would you do that?
Its actaully a very deep subject when you start turning the stones over.
Then there is the "I was only following orders" reply of the average German Soldier

Well Mithis, you have to realize the guy is 57 years old. So 30 years in jail, he will be 87 when he gets out, far too old to do anything, if he lasts that long in jail.

With sufficient powers and supporters he can still command well until he dies. If his health keeps him up.

What, you've never heard of conjugal visits?

Correct, drug lords have in the past been able to command their empire from within US Prisions by the allowance of phone calls to family and friends.
It takes the world court years and millions to try ANYONE of these kinds of crimes... yet they want to do more of this?
