no, but if you want to burn a real dvd, you will need DVD-R cds which are like 1.7 gigs and expensive. Or you can get a dvd-rip and put it on a normal CD-R
they just came out with "dual layer" dvd's. soon you should be able to use DVD-Xcopy to zip a copy off.

wow.... most of these people have no idea what they are talking about:
- DVDs are 4.7 GB, not 1.7
- don't get the new dual layer drive
- DVDs are not expensive, i get them for about 50 cents each
what are you wanting to do? copy movies? if so, you will need:
- A DVD burner
- The program DVD Decrypter
- The program Nero Recode
- The program Nero Burning ROM
- Blank DVDs
- At least 15 GB of hard drive space per DVD you do concurrently.

stealth, you do know that they make dvd's of different sizes...
i dont know whether or not there actually is a 1.7gb, but i know that there isnt just 4.7gb ones. I've seen an 8 and an 11 before. (i think)
8 and 11 would be dual layer just so you know. the largest disc is a 4.7 for a single layer disc.

Yes, obviously they make different sizes of DVDs, but 4.7 is the standard right now. And to all you people out there talking about jumping on the band wagon or DL DVD burners.... have fun... its the first generation of DL drives (which will suck) and you also can't find DL media yet (for example, best buy sells a pack with 9 single layer and one dual layer disk - that's it), and thirdly, the DL disk are expensive as hell, wait six months until the technology matures.
