I've been hearing lots of problems related to the 9600, but then again I have a 9700 and nothing wrong with it whatsoever.
Is the 9600 overclocked any?

http://forums.devhardware.com/archive/t-18547 <-- does that work for you?
ATi or nVidia, you get problems. Intel or AMD, problems .. you are damned if you do and damned if you don't .. trick is to learn one combination and try to stick with it (Sadly)
I have also had problems with the error reporting system for ATI cards. In fact i think the computer that was having the errors now runs a nvidia card... So many freaking cards i cant keep them all stright.

I will try that Spurty.
But the problem is that this only happens in CS. My card runs fine in COD.

heh.. bringing the nvidia vs. ati debate in here is just plain stupid. Nvidia is no better when it comes to problems like that. And either way, it also depends on the manufacturer of the card.
I gotta figure out why my card is screwing up in Quake3 and WolfET one of these days. Runs everything else perfectly fine, and used to run q3 and ET before :(

i havent had a single problem with my ati card, ever.
try reinstalling the drivers. and by reinstall i mean remove *ALL* the old drivers then reinstall. a lot of these problems the guys bashing ati come rom is they dont remove the old drivers completely and they get a ton of conflicts then they start crying about it, same thing happens if you dont completely uninstall the nvidia drivers but you never hear em complaining about that do you.
always the ati bashing.
Boobies!

i had this problem when i first put my 9600 pro. took me about 3 months to fix it, and all i did was upgrade my chipset drivers.

Download linux... replace windows... write your own hardware drivers.
The end.

then write your own games, cause you aint gonna have too many options besides Unreal Tourney to play games. :-D

lol well appart from all the games that are about 2 years old (which does include Counter-Stroke). Wine, plays all Windows stuff as if it were on a windows box. Note, Wine is not like an Emulator with regards to slow down.
Anything that is about 2 years old works fine, anything newer will work if its popular .. that includes your EverQuests and stuff. Neverwinter Nights has native binaries.
Anyway, I have both ATi and nVidia cards and I see little or no difference between them both, just that the nVidia drivers are vaster and more frequently released compared to ATi ones. I like both cards for games, both feel the same, only difference is that nVidia cards are tons cheaper when I go shopping (Yes, I might have just been shopping when the nVidia cards were on sale, but 4 times?)
