Lollapalooza

Hey does anyone here plan to attend Lollapalooza (http://www.lollapalooza.com)? Or does that type of music not tickle your fancy hehe. Anyways just curious, I'm going to probably go to the Mansfield, MA one on Aug. 14/15.

The main reason im going is because one of my favorite bands (Gomez, from the UK) is playing on the second day and one of my gf's favorite singers (Morrisey) is playing on the first day.

I was wondering if anyone here likes the bands playing and what their thoughts were.

Man lollapalooza has gone down hill. It used to be one of the best shows to go to with the best bands. Now i am sad to say it pretty much blows.

Thats what i heard...I also heard no more Lollapalooza ever again. Thats just what i heard on the radio .

I was looking at the Warped tour. Mostly bands I haven't heard of, meaning there's got to be something good on there. I mean, the Tossers are playing a few shows out East, so it can't be all bad.

Ya i heard about the cancellation...no biggy saving me money hehe. Anyways looks like the whole industry isnt doing well this summer. Hope things turn around, i wouldnt want my kids some day to not be able to experience great music festivals.

lollapolooza was awesome back in the day all these new bands are horrible same with the warped tour save your money and dont go.

My sister is going to a three day "country music" fest near Lake Geneva in Wisconsin this year (last year too). Sounds cool except that I hate what passes as country music these days more than I hate, well, country music. I can at least respect the real stuff.

Ummm, the bands playing Lollapalooza were not 'new' bands, to tell you the truth a majority of the bands playing have been around for over 10 years. Part of the reason the event was cancelled was because the bands were targeted towards an older crowd, who arent as inclined to spend 2 days at a music festival. Saying these 'new' bands suck goes to show how much you really dont know about the current state of the music scene today.

Oh, I don't know if this counts as a music festival per-se, but a bar in Champaign, IL (home of the University of Illinois) has a week long "Great Cover Up" once a year where bands from all over the area (like, 6 a night) play covers of their favorite band (have to dress and act like them too). You can't play as a band that has been done in the past, except for the one band that played the Clash two years in a row It that was a punk thing to do, so everyone let it slide. I've only gone once my senior year and I wish I new about it sooner.

I like Garbage. 'Milk', 'Cherry lips' and 'Cup of Coffee' got me through some troubling times in the past

So tell me why you think Gomez sucks? They are probably one of if not my favorite band. Just curious what songs youve heard and why you think they suck.

I also like Garbage. Underrated by most people....Way over rated by their fans. Good fun band to listen to, but not all that deep.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club is pretty damn good, Basement Jaxx aren't bad.

I've only heard PJ Harvey when she did a couple songs with Bjork, but they were pretty cool. I don't think I know any of her own songs though.

As someone up there said, the Pixies are good. Where Is My Mind is a kickass song. But if you look, their little star indicates they were only going to play NY apparently.

In any case, I don't think anyone could say "All those bands suck!"

The main problem I see is they are all bands that someone would go "Eh, I'd go see them" but IF there was a big draw band. Those are mostly bands you wouldn't mind seeing if there was a bigger band or two there.

According to Perry's note on the website, its an issue with being worried about being sued. My bet is no one wants to give them event insurance due to past incidents at recent festivals.
