I don't really see anything wrong in the photo. Just remember though, the chicks didn't necessarily fall, they simply aren't in the photo. Could be further to the right.

Its not likely that its a fake. This happens all the time to ducks for some reason or another. They even showed it one time on one of the animal cop shows. They were tring to rescue the babies that had fallen in the drain before the rain washed them out. They saved like one or two but lost the rest.
