did you install any hardware recently? check the drivers, also since it says it was an error reported by your cpu (didnt even know that was possible) check your motherboard drivers.

omfg, I am so glad you said that because I never installed my mobo drivers!

Nefarious

well, it just froze while i was doing nothing, so that probably didnt fix it.

did you read your first error?

specificall the line that said this:

A hardware failure reported by your Central Processing Unit (CPU)

i read into that as a cpu error...

IE the cpu reported it made an error. this generally happens if its overheating (dirty, no air) or bruk

Nefarious
06-13-2004, 04:27 PM
yea, i wasnt sure if it was the CPU or the CPU reporting something fudged up

nef, you seem to have a lot of error/faults. time to re-format and reinstall OS. it's windows, it gets cloggy and stupid every six months.

well
you mentioned that you hadn't installed the mb drivers till the end...

is there a change that there are some you missed?

normal you do it like this MB -> peripherials -> non - essential drivers -> windows update

least thats how i do it.

Nefarious

hows the heat on the case
did you apply thermal compound on the cpu during installation
try adding the chipset drivers
load into safe mode and see if you get the same problem

hows the heat on the case
terrible. cpu temp = 135-140. system temp = 100-105
did you apply thermal compound on the cpu during installation
yes
load into safe mode and see if you get the same problem
I do

ok, my bro bought a new processor so I took his old one (the exact same as mine) and put that in along with a better heatsink/fan. I fired her up and it stopped reading my hard drive. I put an old harddrive that I didnt know if it worked or not in. Same problem. I took the hd out of my bros comp and it read that. So, my conclusion is that I have a bad hd, which I already new because it was my other bros old hd which didnt work in his. So, I know I already need a new case to help with the cooling aspect (bigger with more fans) and a new hd. SO now, I need to make a little more money to buy a hd. I have 185ish right now and am buying a 150 case. so that only leaves me with 30 bucks or less for a new hd. BUT, I am working friday so hopefully that will give me the little extra cash I need.

hell yes i tried this. I took the cover off and stuck my giant box fan up against it and it still ran at 140. So, my CPU is probably already fried from using it at that temp so much.

um... as a thought did you use his cables? some drives have the special fine wire (80 wires?) cable and others use the older 40 pin cables.

i tried to mix teh two and though i had bad drives when in fact it was the cables...

dont trash anything just yet
try removing the thermal compound and adding some more
and make sure all u cables r clear out of the way of the cpu so it can breathe a lil

guys, im already solved the processor overheating problem. dont worry about that one. and sniper, all the hd are 40 pin, they are all old. And like I said, his worked, but I can't take his cuz he is using it. plues its only 8gigs so i dont want it anyway. I used Mobo monitor 5 before and it read the exact same as bios. 135-140. I time I even saw bios go to 146 which is scary. SO, new processor (actually old and exact same), new heatsink/fan (actually old but better than what I had). I need to go out and by my case and hd.

switch it over to celcius temp's. you'll scare yourself less.

whats scarier 135 DEGREES FARENHEIT!!!!!!!!!

or

57 degrees celcius?

what kind of processor you got? athlons are fine to 68c.

70c+ is the danger zone according to amd.

maybe ur using too much thermal paste? ur only supposed to use a super fine layer just to fill in the cracks between the metal. when u put too much it transfers heat thru the paste which is a poorer conducter than the actual heatsink is.

thats for the newer ones. The heat limit on all the new AMDs is 180. but mine is AMD Athlon XP 2000+ so its pretty old.
