View Full Version : Need to waste 16 hours of paid time... I NEED YOUR HELP. SFW

I'm in the documentation department of a company, and I'm in charge of taking PDF Adobe Acrobat documents and making them field writable. This means I have to open pdf's and stick in little boxes. Not too hard, but how much is it worth? Oh $20/hr. HAH. Here's the thing though. I finished up a set, and until the Printer (job title, not office appliance) gets done with the next batch, I'm supposed to sit pretty and uh... well, get paid $20/hr. I could help the Printer with the next batch, but they won't release the fonts they use for the forms to my computer (they're anal about licensing here). Hah. So I need any/all people to give me something to do. It has to be Safe For Work (SFW), and I gotta get 16 hours (today, tomorrow, and maybe monday) of time out of it. Of course I'll be checking this thread every 30 seconds... Gosh I love corporations. Any/all suggestions welcome, and if you wanna flame me for getting paid $320 for doing nothing for the next two days I'll read those too *snicker*.

Downside of being at a Fortune 10 (not 100... 10) company? A Fortune 10 firewall. Almost all game sites are blocked, as well as non-standard ports.

Oh HELL YES. I loved Legend of the Red Dragon, and if this clone stays faithful I'll love this too. I just hope they have a couple hundred turns per day...

Well that was fun... wasted today because I clicked on "Thrill Seek" instead of Look for something to fight. Found a badass who killed me in two hits as I was trying to run away. Weee!

I worked here last summer for $16/hr, and that was for MS Access Database programming. Then the temp agency (Adecco) asked me this summer if I'd like to return with a pay increase, and I was honestly expecting something around $18/hr. I almost creamed my pants when I heard, "Is $20/hr good enough for you?" I should have said I'd like more heh. But then again if you work things out, that's only $41,600 a year which isn't much considering the mean salary for a Computer Engineer is $53,117 (http://money.cnn.com/2004/02/05/pf/college/lucrative_degrees/index.htm) (~$25.53) and I'm a temp with no benefits. But then again, it's just a summer job 'till I start grad. school in the fall (Microprocessor-Based Systems --> probably robotics). I say talk to Adecco, especially if you're near a big city, you'll find an office temp job which pays high and usually doesn't require a lot of work.

More interesting statistics here if you're interested in how much your job should pay and where your should look for the highest pay in your field:
