[gh] Spybot - We're watching.

Some people have noticed a change to CS1 tonight. They noted that the server slots had increased to 17 and a player named [gh] Spybot was spectating. So what's going on?

Spybot is an HLTV proxy. The proxy doesn't have any spectator spots and you can't watch the server through it. Its sole purpose is to demo record EVERY single thing that happens on the server. If someone is accused of hacking, the demos will be there to check. Spybot will be running 24/7 and is expected to produce roughly 1.5gigs of demos a week.

To download any demo you want, go to the front page and click the "Server Demos (Beta)" link. The demos are in zipped form and are ordered (Currently) from oldest to newest. Each demo has what map it was in the filename, as well as a date/time stamp. The timestamp are in UTC time.

The download list is updated once an hour, so if you just got off the server it could be up to an hour before the demo is available. If this works out like it should, we will add Spybot to CS2, CS3, and CS4.

The download page has been changed to show date, map, etc, and you can now sort a variety of ways. Please note that the time stamps may seem odd. I plan to adjust it but for now its the time that the demo was uploaded to the server. They're still in order, but you'll note that they're gathered in one hour bunches. Hopefully will resolve that later, just have to decide how I want to do it.

Edit: Yes, I know all the time stamps say 12 minutes past the hour, etc. That's because the other server is stupid and is running about 14 minutes behind. I haven't had time to worry about fixing it.

Spybot is now dated based on when the demo was recorded (Finished, actually), not when it was uploaded to the web server. I'll be tweaking this some (Stupid clock on the other stupid server is still wrong and has the wrong timezone too), but it should be a bit easier to find a demo from time 'x' now.

I have cleared the spybot demos. We're no longer in "beta" .. The service is here to stay and has been reset.

Notice:

Sometime tonight or tomorrow I will be implementing a script that will remove older spybot demos from the webpage. Demos older than a week will no longer be able for public download, though game managers can still get them. Demos older than two weeks will be deleted.
