Texted based RPGs, Which ones did/do you play?

I'm currently playing dragonrealms (www.dragonrealms.com) and Gemstone IV (www.gemstone.com)

In the past I've played Dragon's Gate, Moongate Online, Shadow's Gate, Dark Arrival, Shadow's Revenge, and a bunch of others I forget the names of.

Personally I've found when it comes to both game mechanics and roleplaying. Dragonrealms simply can't be beat. Its pay to play, but its worth every penny in my book. I also consider it to be a better and more fun game then ANY graphical game on the market.

www.dark-legacy.com - I'm its co-creator, nough side about my involvement. Heavily (Ie, nearly every line of code) customed MUD based off the SMAUG codebase.

i don't particularly like SMAUG. i prefer RoT or RoM. i used to playe Dark Haven (it's in www.mudconnector.com) but the new owner turned it into a college practice field and tore the place up. i admin/build for another mud called Dragon Ball Z Universe (i hate the DBZ series... the owner is a good friend of mine).

Heh. I should have stressed "originally based on" ... We've completely redone nearly everything.. Leveling, most classes, skills and magic, and combat are completely redone.

Yeah, DL pretty much needs ANSI/Color support to make sense, at least the who list. Ranks and titles and crap. :/

I played MajorMud. The place i played was www.tdh.com. Could only play if you got a scripting program to do the leveling work for you. But it was damned addictive!

I spent a number of years playing Valhalla, was quite awhile ago, but very addictive at the time. I think they still have a website at www.valhalla.com.

I used to play Mortal Realms (http://www.mortalrealms.com/) which apparently is still in existence and there are 15 people playing now... VERY fun and with nice vt102 ANSI. Says it's MERC 2.1 based, but I never played enough to figure out the difference in backends... anybody wanna go over the major players and differences for me?

MERC and SMAUG are derivatives of DIKU. Most of my experience is with SMAUG, some with MERC. They aren't too terribly different.

Some other major players are Circle and Rom, for MUDs, and PennMUSH, TinyMUSH, and TinyMUX for more flexible social environments. Those three are nearly identical interface wise.
