Why can only admins vote in this poll?

I am an admin and I can't vote. I think we all know Ferret's favorite since he has been the only one allowed to vote so far..

Well, I tried voting off of the main page cause I don't even have the option in the thread. You might wanna try there.

Vote for none-of-the-above/CS Cutsoms for me, please.

I voted for Superhero. FF is better for late night when regs are on. SUperhero is most fun overall.

can i persuade you to add ninja rope and more customs to the war3 server? the ninja rope is the shit. and in combination with war3 it owns the shit out of that weak ass superhero mod.

Nothing outrules Friendly Fire. Don't like to use a slight skill advantage and manage not to shoot teammates? Then you suck :)

It is odd that ever since CS:S came on the scene - or HL2 for that matter - the 1.6 servers seem to get a lot more activity? Seems to happen every time some big change happens to the game. Like when Steam was first released. Name another game with this staying power.

I just bought half life in January. I don't know why i didn't buy number 2, but I thought counterter-strike would be a blast. Its dirt cheap, and it is fun, so of course it is still going to attract people!
(I voted FF... It adds a fun element to the game)

css plays soooo much like the old cs that it's really not a new game or big change. It's just prettier now. And I presume as soon as more custom maps come out for css, and once you 1.6 junkies realize how much better it is, the old cs will finally be retired for the most part. And no, it's not like seeing an old friend die or anything, because cs:s is really just an update. Still the same game.

It plays nothing like cs 1.6. You have to have not played 1.6 for a while and have come into source fresh in order to think that.

I went back and played 1.6 for hours one night just to compare and contrast. And it plays almost exactly the same. The biggest changes I can find are the body specific damage is vastly improved, the weapons seem more balanced (glock and auto snipers especially), and the fact that it's not on a 9 YEAR OLD ENGINE! :-P

uh, can't edit for some reason. I take it back, 8 year old engine. (Quake 2 came out at the end of 1996)

HL came out 1998. And it's based off the Quake 1 engine originally.

No, Quake 2's engine had no tie-in into the Quake 1 engine, it was a complete re-design. Half-Life uses a heavily modified version of the Quake 2 engine. I keep hearing people saying Q2 is based off of Q1, which is bull. Hexen was based off of Q1 though.

The original retail boxes say Quake 2. Just to put this to rest. There was a thread on this months ago.

I don't see any reference to Quake 2 on the HL box, just "licensed from id Software 1996-1998". At any rate, like GND said, it's common knowledge it started off with Quake 1 (spring 96), heavily modified, merged some stuff from Quake 2 (fall 97) and released fall 98.

Yea, I still have my HL1 box... anyway, yes, the HL1 engine is old

::sigh::

Quake 1's engine was an offshoot modified version of the Final Doom engine, but was already too hard to code for it on a higher modification, so ID SOFTWARE re-designed an FPS engine with added OpenGL support. Quake 2 later was licensed to Valve to use the engine and modify it for higher texture resolution, higher polygonal count, and a crapload of fixes like environmental behavior.

The thing on the box saying it was a modification of Quake 2 was a sticker and wasn't actualy printed on the box.
