Anyone have any information on when Blizzard might be releasing an official expansion? Or will they? Maybe they'll just release content over time without charging, WOULDN'T THAT BE GREAT?
Anyways. Theres so much in the Warcraft world that isn't yet represented or completed in WoW. The frozen north isn't really represented, to my knowledge you can't get to the Maelstrom, or many other islands between the continents, and what about the Outlands, the remains of Draenor?
I think it would be cool if they added a third fraction based off the forces in the Outlands. The draenor, naga, blood elves, and maybe some other new race.
That's be awesome.

I would bet large cash that an expantion would come out. Not only does it make fiscal, both for their pockets and for marketing, but Blizzard has a history of releaseing amazing expantion packs. I wouldn't expect anything before summer, if not later.

There are rumors of 3 months for an expansion on the general forums. But Battlegrounds is a free addition. I'm actually kind of dissapointed at the lack of content patches, coming from City Of Heroes and to a lesser extent, Star Wars Galaxies. They used to have monthly/bi-monthly content patches, and in the case of City Of Heroes, they've already added in 4 new zones, a couple high level instances, and 2 new races, all for free. I'm definitely sticking around in WoW until Battlegrounds comes out, and Hero classes make it in. I just hope it's not a cocktease like jedi was in SWG.

Hero Classes? This I haven't heard of.. More info.
Also.. I'm not disappointed in the lack of content patches.. Blizzard has been busy dealing with all the performance issues and trying to get that under control. If that delays patches, I'm happy. No need for patches if lag is too bad to play.
Speaking of which, all performance issues, at least on Lightbringer, seem to be resolved, or greatly improved anyways. Even AH barely lags now.
i would be really pissed if they released a new "Expansion" i had to buy.
i pay money everymonth to play this game... now i have to buy an expansion to keep playing?
pfft.
that would piss me offf. alot.
enough to stop playing i think.

as someone who hasn't reached lvl 60 I don't need an expantion yet. I agree with ferret, get what is there working right first. I know I have run into three quest that are broken, something that just shouldn't happen.
And yes, Hero Classes?

This must be your first MMORPG, huh? Everquest had like 9 expansions, none of them free. City of Heros is the only MMORPG that really comes to mind that makes content free on a regular basis.
Expansions also are never REQUIRED to keep playing. You're simply barred from going into those new areas or, for instance, using a new race or class that it introduced. You can keep playing with everything the original had, but to get the new stuff you have to buy it.
I'd buy it. WoW is definately worth it. Hell, I barely played Everquest but I own all the expansions (Granted I only ever bought one of them by itself and got the rest through "Platinum" packs and the like)

City of Villians is a CoH expantion pack about to come out. It lets you play as, you guessed it, a villian.
All MMORPG release expantion packs. Ashron Call is the only one I know of that promised never to release them but they changed their toon.
In partial fairness Everquest did release free content also, as will WoW.

Hero classes is something that they are working on for people who reach 60. Basically it all depends on your race and class. Like a human mage might become a archmage. I try to follow the blizz forums alot and it seems like they have alot coming out. I might actually roll a warrior because of all the new implementations they will be making to it.

I still want someone to comment on this. I think it one be super awesome for the outlands to be added to the game and a new faction based off it created, adding 4 new races. Illiad controls the Naga, the Draenor, and the Blood Elves. They'd have to come up with something for a fourth race probably.
The Draenor are sorta taurenish, shamanistic, in culture. The Blood Elves are the high elves from the east continent, and they serve Illiad out of lust for magic. The naga are the original night elves of course, the original High Elves who originally caused the Burning Legion to come to Azeroth and were trapped under the ocean after the Burning Legion was originally defeated and the Maelstrom came into existance.
God I know too much about Warcraft.
They could probably add a race of Demons, similar to how the Undead work with the Horde but aren't really allies with them.

Add the Pandaren as the fourth race. We would all love to play as giant pandas.

actually if you have seen the books lying around in the game and read them, Booty Bay inn has three boos that say that the Trolls were the original and oldest race. They had a a couple different Empires that vied for control over Kalimdor, which was one continent at the time (much like Pangea)and they had to band together to deafeat the insect like creatures (Nerubians and Silithid?) then many years later they turned into the night elves upon discovering the well of eternity. And the rest is history, at least that's what i got from the books lying around places, the three books are also in the Gadzetzan inn if you would like to see for yourself.
i would also like to play as a Goblin.... that would be awesome. Goblins would be cool to play as... much cooler than gnomes. And Demon Hunter was one of the hero classes that i had heard rumors of even way back before beta

I haven't read those books, no. So its Trolls -> Elves -> Night Elves/High(or Blood) Elves/Naga.
The Nerubians are in the frozen north.. I believe the Lich King mostly destroyed them and forced the remainder to serve him.
I don't think you'll see a Goblin race, since they seem to serve as an independant faction for the most part.

Its been 2 days without WoW now. :tard: :coffee:
*repeatedly glances at the calendar, shaking like a leaf*
With that time I'm almost finished figuring out story/classes/races for WoW2, though there some changes that require something like WC4 to push the story forward between the WoWs. :)
Also, I've encountered lots of not yet implemented instances, zones and areas. Some of the instances might be Battlegrounds and some areas might be small enough for patches, but most of the stuff looks like its waiting for an expansion.

It's Trolls>Night Elves>Naga>High Elves>Blood Elves.
Since Trolls are first from the books, then Night Elves were the only elves in existence, they all lived around the first Well of Eternity. Big crap happened, and split the continent apart, some Night Elves became stuck under the Maelstrom and became the Naga. The rest lived on around the second Well of Eternity created by Illidan. Some more Night Elves begin to tap into the Well of Eternity again, get banished, became the High Elves and moved to Quel'thalas. Then they became the Blood Elves under Illidan.
At least thats how I think it goes.

Incorrect my friend.
I haven't read the stories about Trolls. So we'll just say Trolls->Elves.
The elves tapped into the Well of Eternity, used tons of magic, and became addicted. Their activities drew the attention of the Burning Legion. War ensues. The elves end up split into two camps, those who refuse to give up the Well of Eternity (Including the empresses), and those who want to destroy/cap it to force the Burning Legion out.
Long story short, the Well is capped, big explosions, Maelstrom is created and the two continents split. The "high born" elves that wanted to keep the well are trapped beneathe the ocean and the maelstrom. Some elves end up on both continents, later to become the Night Elves and the High Elves. Illidan's betrayal is due to his lust for magic.. He uncaps the Well of Eternity by creating the Tree of Life on Kalimor. He is imprisoned for this but the Night Elves have magic once more. In the east Continent the High Elves create the Sun Well or whatver it was called and it becomes their source of magic.
After the event of WC3, the Sun well is poisoned and corrupted by the undead forces and Prince Arthas. The High Elves are left with no magic source and get mostly destroyed, eventually calling themselves the Blood Elves out of honor of the blood of their fallen nation. After Illidan is released and helps defeat the Burning Legion, he eventually comes across both the Naga and the Blood Elves (Both groups want magic). Illidan eventually convinces Prince Kael of the Blood Elves that if he serves Illidan, he and his people will get all the magic they want.
At the end of WC3 FT, I believe Illidan is forced to flee back to the Outlands after his failed attempt to stop Prince Arthas and kill the Lich King. The Blood Elves and Naga reside their with him now, as well as the native Draenor who serve Illidan due to him killing their Burning Legion overlords.

About the expansion: I doubt they'll be releasing it anytime soon considering the actual game is on freeze at most locations due to the server issues. During the Beta, they were constantly adding new content (naturally). Battlegrounds will be free, PvP update will be free, but I doubt the Hero class will be. Who knows, maybe they'll add another race in the expansion. That would be sweet.

I don't think they can just add a race. I think the way its setup they have to add either two races (One per faction), or four (A whole new faction).
I want an Outlands Faction. Illidan has no love for either horde or alliance.
Remember that some of the top-developpers have an Everquest background, and love to work on perfecting the balance of the game, without changing major things every 2 weeks.
They like the way the game is right now, and will slowly add high-lvl contents.
Most major mmorpg took awhile before releasing expansions. Expansions = usually changing how the game is played, and WoW is not an old game yet. They want to keep it that way :)
Molten Core is done by a handful of people on every servers, and there's a rumor about a new instance that you can access after killing Onyxia and finishing up a quest with stuff she drops.

I've been reading some of the WC lore today, and it seems like: First there were Night Elves, then half the magic-using NEs turned into Nagas and the other half ran away and became High Elves(later Blood Elves).
It doesn't look like Trolls are related to the elves. It also looks like Dwarves were there first(along with Sea Giants).
I'm not entirely sure about all of this. I'll just read the rest of Chapter II before I go to bed, then continue tomorrow.
The lore is recommended, it gives a Silmarillion feel. :)

Trolls were THE oldest race, if you read the three books in the gadzetzan inn it explains this... a few trolls had gone missing when they found the first well of eternity, and are believed to have become the first night elves
also explains why when wearing helmets from a distant they look alike due to their ears and their skin colors are not to different

trolls to (nigh)elves, only the nitelvs whent to naga, and the other elves (the crackers) went to blood elves, who were the same as high elves just with greed for magic.

Nub: There were only one "elves" at first.. They all used the Well of Eternity. After it was destroyed, the "bad elves" became the naga. The elves that were on the west continent became the Night Elves (Due to Illidan tapping back into the Well with the tree), and the east continent became the High Elves (With the sunwell).
The High Elves later RENAMED themselves "Blood Elves" .. Nothing changed about them, they just chose a new name for themselves after their nation was destroyed by Prince Arthas.

Because he's the freaking Lich King, ruling his undead Scourge from the Frozen Throne.
He's the mama bear of the Death Knights and the big daddy of evil.
