Complaint
Complaint Classification: Gen. Service Issues

Complaint Description - Posted 1-18-2005

They cannot maintain a game that they are advertising and that I am paying to play. It is a constant problem. Their servers are always down or they are performing poorly. Both my husband and I have bought copies of this game and we have our own accounts. However, we cannot enjoy this game because Blizzard cannot hold up to their end of the contract.

Complaint Summary

I paid $50 for a video game, and pay $13 a month in order to be able to play the game itself. However, I can barely play due to their issues.

Resolution Sought

Fix their servers.

Company's Response
Initial Response - Posted 1-21-2005

Providing a quality play experience is critically important for any game developer. We regret the unfortunate problems that have required instances of emergency maintenance in the weeks following the release of World of Warcraft, and have made significant hardware investments in an attempt to address the availability issues.

While Blizzard has offered free extensions for playtime for players who have been affected by some of these periods of downtime, we understand that what is most desired is accessibility, not reimbursement. We are working as fast as possible to overcome the challenges brought about by the game’s sudden growth, and hope to see a noticeable improvement in server-side performance for our customers over the next several days.

Initial Response Summary

Maximizing server availability is one of our primary concerns at this time. We hope to demonstrate measurable improvement in server performance over the next several days.

Sounds good to me :)

Well..yea it sounds good, but you gotta realize, thats what they are going to say. Even if they are not doing anything they are going to say that they are fixing the problem. I'm not saying that Blizzard doesn't do anything about problems but most of the time it usually takes a long long long long long long time before anything is really fixed especially for Blizzard, the people who are famous for delaying releases, along with Squaresoft.

Much better response than Sony ever offers. :P

I fully imagine they did not expect WoW to recieve as much of the player base from Sony as they have. Thousands have selected WoW over EQ2 and some of sony's other more minor games. I have no problem giving Blizzard a bit more time to sort out the issues.

Speaking of Sony it is interesting to me that some of the same bugs in WoW are also in EQ 1 and 2.....beginning to wonder if someone is contracting their engine to both companies  But seriously, some of the issues are just the state of the art right now.
