View Full Version : A Post of Many Words

Much has happened this weekend. I've taken a long hard look at what I'm doing here, what I want to do here, and the differences between the two. I've talked with many people I trust and discussed a great deal of things. So let me warn you, many things will be changing..

I'll go over many of the things I've decided in my ponderings. I feel that most recently as I come under more pressure in real life and here in the community, I have done somethings that could have been worded better. I do not necessarily regret decisions I have made, but feel I could have brought them across better. I will address several things now, concerning how we will go forward from this point.

#1) Postwhoring - This will no longer be a focus of mine. I believe the current arrangement of forums will suffice in this regard. I must respectfully ask that all community members, out of respect for your fellow community members, please try to use the forums correctly. The Lounge is your playground to do with as you see fit, so long as you do not break the forum rules (pornography, racial/hate language, etc). I ask that you do your best to not hijack threads in other areas, but it is the nature of forums for this to sometimes occur. If a thread has been drasticly hijacked from its original purpose, moderators will split out the hijacked section and move it to the Lounge (Or other appropriate location). No posts will be deleted, simply moved so that both topics/threads can continue.

I have made many declarations and threats concerning postwhoring, and acted on none of them. In doing so I have helped fuel resentment between those who enjoy a more relaxed posting environment to those who would like everything on topic. These threats were never enforced and are now retracted. Post as you desire, but I ask you once more out of respect.. Don't hijack your fellow members posts, and try to follow the descriptive guidelines of each forum.

#2) Site Policies... You will note a great many changes and additions to the front page. These bear, as many of you will note, a striking similiarity to Chi-Mayhem's policies.. All content is used with permission and adjusted some what for GameHavoc's use. These are our rules and guidelines as a community, going forth. We have always been based off these principals, but now they are publicly posted for all to review, rather than a half-remembered ideal. If you have issues with the rules as set forth, I must respectfully ask that you not post within the forums, or play on the game servers.

#3) Admins.. The admin list for GameHavoc is large and varied. Some are inactive, some are less than ideal. When GameHavoc was created, it absorbed the admins from FCS and from Spurty's Pub, with little review of who joined. When FCS grew beyond an infant community, it likewise absorbed many ChiMayhem admins.. Without review. That review will now occur. All admins will be required over the next few weeks to reapply for their positions. No one will be removed until the application process is over. You can find the application on the front page of the site.

Admins will be reviewed by myself, ThriKreen, and Spurty. If any of us have objections, you will not recieve admin. The admin nomination threads of the past will no longer be used.. New admins or those seeking it will need to send applications in for review, as noted on the front page.

Now I'll tell you all the things I did this weekend, during our rest from posting on the forums.

#1) I have completed the purchase and setup of the new server. As a result, CSS and HL2DM have changed IPs and should now run much smoother, being seperated from the CS 1.6 servers. I have also restarted UT2K4, since I now have the resources to run it once more. I would like to play there again. I also put up a CSS2, not because I expect it to have activity, but because I should technically have the resources for it and wish to measure how the server behaves.

#2) On the primary server, I have brought up CS4. This server runs only custom maps. I do not expect it to have a lot of activity for a long time, as it will need to build up a following of people who enjoy custom maps. For those of you that do, this is your playground. Stock maps cannot be nominated or voted for, except for a few which I consider to practically be customs. (Torn, storm, etc)

#3) The servers (CS 1.6 and NS) once more have a swear filter installed. This is not the old filter from FCS, but something more similar to the old filters on Chi. Messages are not blocked but are instead censored, much as the forums do. You cannot turn it off. Admins are asked to begin enforcing no-swear rules on the servers once more, and to watch for those who attempt to bypass the filter. (more on this later)

We as a community have let several petty things come between us. I'm as much at fault as anyone, and I will strive to check my temper in the future, as I've let it lose a few times. I believe I have more clearly defined how I wish to go forward with this great big project known as GameHavoc now.. I request that you help me realize these goals and bring them about. We're a great community, with great roots behind us in the forms of FCS, Spurty's Pub, ChiMayhem, and many others.

In closing, I must ask that you please bring concerns you have with my administration of the community to me. I can only address these concerns if you inform me of them. Contrary to what some may believe, I recieve nearly 0 negative feedback on my own actions, only on the actions of others. You have to let me know what you have issue with if I am to try to make it right.

It should be noted that non-admins are welcome to fill out the new admin application as well.

Ferret: i especially like the new way you setup guidelines. They are much more precise and can be adhered to to keep gamehavoc a funner [more fun?] community while also keeping with policy. thanks for everything man!

Swearing is "allowed" .. The filter will catch it here just like on the server. People have the option to turn the filter off as well, so I don't believe anyone can have complaints. Moderators do adjust posts that attempt to bypass the filter though.
