The server was rebooted today after having its operating system recompiled to remove modifications made for NS. This was done in hopes of improving in-game performance for the CSS server, as well as all servers in general.
While I haven't gotten CSS full yet, I'm proud to announce the following: Pings may now be as much as 35-40% lower than before. Thrikreen got in and his normally 150ms ping was now 100ms. I got in and my 90-100ms ping was now 60-70ms. The server also seemed smoother.
While this will primarily affects CSS (And HL2DM), you should also see a slight drop in pings on the CS 1.6 servers as well, maybe 10-20%.
Edit: Initially, I got reports that pings were higher than normal under CS 1.6 .. I have made some adjustments to help CS 1.6 deal with the new system settings and it seemed to me that pings were back down to normal afterwards. Some of these settings are somewhat experimental so I may be tweaking things over the next few days to find the right balance. Despite whatever the scoreboard is showing though, I did not experience any lag while playing.

when i try and connect to cs3.gamehavoc.com it cant resolve. when i tracert it comes up and i can connect by ip. anyone else have that problem?
lol how long does the bans take to spread from one server to the next? mapchange? next DB update? banned a guy from cs2 then saw him at cs3 and banned him from there 15 minutes later.

Bans currently do not go from server to server, only perma-bans do.
I can't explain why you're having trouble with cs3.gamehavoc.com, it resolves fine for me. Try it with the port number. (27015)

so i was in this server and i told these guys if they want smoother gameplay to do cl_smooth 0.... they were like "ive heard of ppls accountes getting erased for that kind of stuff" i was like.. suit yourself. THIS IS ON TOPIC because he was fixin the server making smoother... at least its good post. =)

no that's a client side variable (cvar?). you cant be banned or have account restricted / removed by changing a configuration that is allowed to be changed. cl_smooth, if im not mistaken, is about when the engine predicts your next move, and makes the transgression more smooth. and cl_smoothtime is about the time it takes before that happens, i believe.

This has been rolled back, sorry. The effect of changing these system settings for CSS had a really nasty affect on the CS 1.6 servers. Since they have players just about 24/7, they get precedence. I've rolled us back to the previous settings.
I'll revisit this in February or March when we get a new server, and move all HL2/CSS servers to it to seperate them from the HL1 servers. Click those google ads people.
