Would you consider dual wield to always be better, or does it simply depend on the weapon?

The two handed weapons have really high DPS, while dual weapon the off hand is (Generally, on average) about half the DPS of the main hand.

using low level examples:
Dual wielding 10dps daggers = 15dps, roughly
Two-handed 15dps mace

The only real advantage I can see is that with the daggers, you attack faster, so if you miss a hit it doesn't hurt your overall DPS as much.

Since I don't have any level 40+ characters, I have no idea how equipment looks that high.

feret i think the big question to ask is: if you dual wield, can you carry 2 daggers (or weapon) with dual buffs. so i fyou have weapons with +8 stamina on both (and you get a +16 bonus) it might be better to dual weild.

depends on the 2 handed you would replace it with i guess.

Yeah, my reasoning (And suspicion) is that in general, two handed weapons have about 1.5 times the DPS of normal weapons to make them comparable to dual wielding. I also suspect (But can't confirm) that weapon pops (Not counting buffs or enchantments) for two-handed weapons tend to be about twice as good as single weapons.

But again, when you're talking enchantments or buffs, two targets is better than one, like you said.

i am a warlock (not your average warlock) since i attack in combat. i use a dagger that does approx 28dps. then i couple it with my greater firestone. this adds a shitload (60-80) damage on attack to strike the vicitm. on averate it hits 1 out of 5 times.

my dagger also has a +11 bonus holy damage buff. its a nice weapon. coupled wioth my spells i can hold my own pretty well.

what sucks is i have like 850 armor with all my buffs on. stupid cloth :(

Things to consider:

Weapons buffs - With dual wield you get more stat buffs.

Miss % - I don't know th offical % but people in my guild told me you are prone to miss attacsk 25% more often with dual wield when fighting a mob your own lvl.

Critical Hits - Dual wield allows you hit with criticals more ofeten/

Enchantments. You can encahnt each weapons with damage modifiers, hence doubling the amount enchantments can do.

Personally I think the pros outweight the con of the miss %. My lvl 30 Hunter DUal wields an axe and dagger currently.

Druids cant dual wield.

It's all about the 2h staff baby since we can't use shields.

And when you use forms, you dont use your weapon.

Be ready for lots of bear form :)

As I play a spell caster, Warlock, I would tell you to use two handed weapon. That is because I will have a better chance to get a spell off. When you dual wield you continue to interrupt my casting and it takes longer for me to cast. So if you plan on some pvp, and go up against casters, the dual wield will help you keep them from casting on you. There are some abilities we have to somewhat get around this but I know it has been frustrating for me to cast against a person with dual wield ability.

I know when I am in Ghostwolf form as my Shaman my weapon and its buffs still do the same amount of damage when I bite. I just cant cast while in GW form. Thought it was the same for Druid, but guess im mistaken.

FYI fighitng in GW form is stupid for shamans (since they cant cast, and 80% of my dmg comes from spells), but I did test this theory once before. My bite was doing same dmg and crit-ing as often as when I was in normal form.

Duel wielding and Two Handed weapons really depend on your class and race and how you set up your talents. If you have a high AGI or STR and your class has a skill bonus on certain weapons, it is better to dual wield. When you dual wield the off hand weapon is half damage and your attack rate is halved. Since you swing with both hands, you also miss twice as often but you also have crit attacks twice as often. So if you have a high attack rating, you should always dual wield. Warriors and rogues should definitely dual wield since rogues have such high AGI and Crit ratings. Warriors on the other hand should dual wield because if it is necessary you can always drop the offhand and take a shield to tank with. Also warriors have a lot of talents that increase crit %, increase attack rating, and increase attack damage. However it does all come down to personal preference in the end.
