Worth watching?

Had it on dvd for a while, never got around to watching it. Yes, I know it's regarded as on eof the best animes ever. I know most of the basic plot. And that's what's been keeping me from getting around to watching it.

I've always hated animes with no ends / crappy ends / creators who were trying to be deep/artsy/mindtrippy/depressing beyond belief/etc, which Evangelion is generally regarded as a poster child for.

Thoughts?

cowboy bebop is the best anime series ever.

but you can't NOT watch Eva.

watch it until about the last 2 episodes (they take place with in the main characters mind) and watch the two movies instead.

4 new movies are supposed to be made as well

I've always thought Eva was overhyped and not the god-worshipped anime people seemed to make it out to be.

That said, it wasn't bad either. It's actually pretty disturbing at points. However, DK0 is right. The last two episodes of the official 26 aren't the original ending. They made it less hardcore and TV sane or something. They later released the two movies, which were suppose to replace the last two episodes as the ending and are considerably weirder, disturbing, and better.

They're doing a like, "EVA: Reborn" project. The entire story is being redone into 4 movies from start to finish, so that's seperate from the original 26 eps + 2 movies. It's suppose to re-present the story without any of the inconsistancies, edits or censorships that the TV series was plagued with, I believe.

Worth a watch, but not worthy (IMO) of the high esteem it had years ago.

I agree with Ferret... its a pretty whacked out series, with some really disturbing moments... but not the end-all-be-all of anything...

Rah-Xephon is a really parallel storyline, with much better animation and a slightly less cluttered plot. (IMO)
