RIDE THE PIG!!!!!!!!!!!!
And SF, since your first 360 failed, aren't you slightly concerned about buying another one that's likely to fail?

This is my second one. The first one's disc drive broke and it would constantly open and close itself. If I remember correctly, this was mere days after the warranty had expired. So rather than pay $100 for a 'maybe' fix, I bought a core system and put my original's hdd in it. It had been fine until last night. The red ring of death repair is completely free, so I'll give it a try.
Far as I know, the Elites arent having any issues. And they look so much nicer.

They extended the warranty so if you get the ring of death they will fix it. If you haven't sent it out though do the towel trick. It is a temp fix and really does work. Thus allowing you to play till you send it.

My ps3 has never broken. And I guarantee you there's no self fix for it that is so commonly known that it has a nickname.
Too bad I have about 4 good games to play. :-P

Well, the 360 owners have 6, so don't feel bad. Fortunately, my PC has about 6000 good games to play :)
don't worry. By the end of the year, 6 MUST OWN games will be out for the PS3:
April 15th, Gran Turismo V Prologue
April 29th, Grand Theft Auto IV
June 12th, Metal Gear IV
June 23rd, Battlefield: Bad Company
September, Jedi, Golden Axe
October, Bionic Commando, Fallout 3, Ghostbusters, 007, Prototype, Street Fighter, World in Conflict, etc.

too bad I end up buying every console for a couple of games, and then playing said game for about an hour, and then going upstairs to log in to wow...
Maybe you should try Call of Duty 4.
That's been a good fix.

I don't understand how anyone can believe the towel trick actually works. Basic electronics tells you that it'll damage far more and it won't fix anything.

Tried it because i was waiting for the shipping box to arrive. They were required to fix anything the was messed up on it. So I had nothing to lose, wasn't opening the box. It does work, but only for a few days then you have to do it again..

Exactly - heat causes the board to expand and you get contact for a brief moment, then it cools enough and dies again.
And if you WERE able to heat it up enough to melt the solder, I'd be more worried about what ELSE could melt.
Basically, towel trick is just that, a trick on the gullible.

Wow, the Elite is so much quieter and faster. And HDMI is like 10x better looking. I'm glad the other one died.
Anyone wanna buy a 360 core (with 20gig hdd) in 2-4 weeks? $100 OBO

Is this comparison against an early 360? I was under the impression that the internal hardware is exactly the same between all versions of current 360s. The cheap-o 360 Arcade even has the HDMI, it just doesn't come with the cable.

Well, the old one seemed pretty loud. I only hear this one when its loading, and even then its barely audible.
