OK, yesterday I sent an email to the "tech" guys at Blizzard concerning the P2P downloader. I was getting an "unknown error message". What he sent back was basically a text version of the website. Do we not deserve something other than cookie cutter tech support if paying 15 dollars a month for the game?

here it is

Hi Nick,

The Blizzard Downloader allows users to download large files without being limited by a host's bandwidth by using a peer-to-peer protocol. Your computer may need to be configured in certain way to optimize the speed and functionality of the Downloader. Information on this is below.

If you would like to use the built-in alternate download method, you can un-check the box for peer-to-peer downloading. This will reduce the potential download speed, since it is not as fast as peer-to-peer, but will draw the patch file directly from Blizzard's servers. If you would like to optimize your system for the peer-to-peer connections, information on that is below.

* If you are using a firewall, you will need to ensure ports 6881-6999, 6112, and 3724 for the TCP (also called TCP/IP) protocol are open in order for the Blizzard Downloader to connect correctly. If you are using a router, you may also need to set up port forwarding for these specific ports as well. You can find further information on how to configure firewalls and routers on our Networking help page - (http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=msi0423p). If you need additional support, please contact your router or firewall manufacturer.

* If you are experiencing slow download speeds, please check our 'Slow Download Speeds using the Blizzard Downloader' page at: (http://www.blizzard.com/support/wow/?id=aww0819p).

* If you're experiencing error messages, our 'Blizzard Downloader Fails to Connect to Tracker or Peers' page is available at: (http://www.blizzard.com/support/wow/?id=aww0820p).

* If your downloader is having crashes or lockups, our 'Blizzard Downloader Freezes, Crashes, or has High CPU Utilization' page is available at: (http://www.blizzard.com/support/wow/?id=aww0820p).

* For additional information on the new Blizzard Downloader, we recommend that you consult our Blizzard Downloader FAQ - (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/faq/blizzarddownloader.html).

Not sure why this surprises you. I've never met a company representative that doesn't try the cookie cutter documentation first.

From a business aspect, what do you expect them to do? They have, what, 400,000 players? If every one of them sent in an e-mail, do you expect them to hand write every one? No, it's not efficient nor is it even warranted. Hell, we dont' have NEAR that many subscribers for my company and I do that same shit, it's just more efficient. Just go look for a godforsaken mirror of the patch, www.filefront.com works well.

I with Newbreed here. Sometimes you need Tech Support, not genaric answers. This isn't about what's cheapest and easiet for the buisness, this is about making your customers happy. Years ago you'd get better tech support then we do now. Now you are herded into automated systems that rarely answer your question. It took me hours yesterday to get someone to help me with my problem (and it still doesn't work). They took my money for the product it's their job to make sure it works, if making sure it works cost to much money then don't release a faulty product.

But you also have to take into account that those automatic e-mails probably resolve the majority of the problems they receive. I'm used to getting those messages, and if it's not fixed, I get "real" customer service. But I don't really mind the fact that they give me the automation first. If they end up just sending automations EVERY time, well, then that I think is poor customer service.

I'm sure they suffer a fair amount of having to REPEAT what was in that generic email for people who didn't fkng read it. From a customer service standpoint, I certainly agree with, "Read this first. If your problem isn't addressed on this list, call back and I'll walk you through it."

If it was a billing question you know you'd have them jumping all over you. When its about getting your money's worth its "we have so many users we can't possible use 100% live people anymore" but if it's about them getting their money their send 10 people after your ass.

I'm telling you there is a third patch.

1) When I was on the phone with Tech support they told me there are three patches.

2) THe two patches you have go from 1.0.0 to 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 to 1.2.1. You are missing the patch from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2

3) When I saved my patches from my first uninstall I had three patches, one of which was 1.1.1 to 1.1.2

4) When I try the 2nd patch you posted it says, "Wrong file version, 1.1.1".

There are three patches, not two patches. THe 2nd patch was less thena meg so you probablt didn't notice it or something.

Most companies outsource collections. However, billing notices until it gets to that point are normally automated.

You miss my point. My software doesn't work, I am at a dead end. It takes me hours to get someone to help me and I have to pay long distance on my dime to do so. Once I get someone he says he'll E-mail me after looking into it. Over 24 hours later no E-mail from him. If the Tides were turned, if I owed them money and wasn't responding, they'd ruin my credit ratings and have people hounding me. I can't do a damn thing to them to make them fix their problem or give me compensation.

The problem was this was my third attempt at reaching them and they all gave me the same reponse even after I gave them an event number and everything.

Normally Blizzard has been good to me. I have been a fan of theirs since the original Warcraft (I still play if every once and awhile). Its just aggrivating that they do this normal response (cookie cutter bullshit) with someone who has called multiple times and even emailed.

BTW: It ended up taking almost 3 hours to download patch with very little in game change..IMO
