Is anyone running xbox live without the standard wireless adapter from microsoft?

I'm sure you can do it - Ihave a USB dlink adapter. But I can't get it to detect the network to connect. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks!

Yeah I'm using a D-Link Wireless adapter. It's been pretty straightforward. All I had to do was to give access to it in my router and it worked like a charm!

just for the record, didn't I mention earlier that ordering some crazy azn wirless adapter on the cheap probably wouldn't work. :P

You can probably ebay a real wireless adapter, or you could probably grab a wireless bridge for pretty cheap? Not really sure. I just have a cat5 running down my stairs into a switch in my living room for my cable box/360/HTPC. The Wii is wireless of course, which is nice I must admit.

I've put my 360 + D-Link adapter MAC addresses in my router since I've enabled MAC Filtering.

This I don't know unfortunately. I have no idea.

When I try to go online, it doesn't detect that I'm using a wireless bridge.

can you hook a computer up through the wireless bridge and make it function?

That would be the first step, see if you can get your PC to work through it. Read some instructions etc, do a google search if you hafta.

Then, after you know the bridge and the router are talking properly, you should be able to plug it right into the 360 with nary a problem.

The, you sign up for live gold, add me as a friend, and buy games we can play online. And then force skiff to buy a 360 too.

Why the **** would I do that when I have a free one sitting in Ragin's basement which as of Feb 23rd is going to be a 5min walk for me. Also a new 'puter is on the horizon for me so that I can play game like CoD4 on PC like a champ rather then on 360 like a loser. FPS + Console makes baby Jesus cry.

I'll see if I can help ragin with his networking issues.

lol, NOPE. 2 DIFFERENT THINGS. read the instructions that came with your router or visit d-link online for your specific router.

okay...so here is my next barrier.

MAC settings.

My xbox is not detecting my network. I can enable MAC addresses...but how do I get that from my xbox? Is it assigned, or what?

The MAC adress is from waht ever is conencting wirelessly. I presume you XBox is useing a device to connect since it doesn't have wireless built in.

Thanks Doc...but I'm looking for a bit more specific information.

My understanding is that the "wireless device", AKA xbox will be assigned a specific address (this thing we call MAC). Where do I get it within the xbox dashboard? How do I find it out?
