View Full Version : WoW Crashes?

Anyone else get fairly frequent crashes while playing WoW? I haven't been paying attention to the crash report details, but it mostly seems to be memory access violations.
I probably crash once every 1.5 hours or so.. Usually right after attacking something, so I come back and am dead.
Anyways. Kamie says it NEVER crashes while she's playing, which is on the same PC. She has her own user in Windows though so maybe I've tweaked some setting on my account that's foobar'ing it.

WoW has crashed only twice for me since it has come out. I do not experience frequent crashes with WoW. Something weird is definately going on. Have you been using their bugtraq reporting system (i.e. clicking submit)? Hopefully if it is a problem not localized to u they will have it fixed. Anyways, next time it happens post info about the report.
every time i exit. but i think its cosmos.

Everytime I've clicked Send on their bug reports it would wait a few minutes and come back that it had trouble connecting. But let's see.. I bought the game Friday. Crashed at least 3 times Friday, 3 times Saturday, and at least 4 times yesterday. Kamie meanwhile has been playing since Saturday, at least 8-9 hours of playing, and says its never crashed.
That's what I don't understand. While she's playing under another account on my Windows XP machine, the basic configuration of the two users shouldn't be so different that WoW crashes for me and not her. I have administrative rights and she doesn't, but that shouldn't matter either.
I don't know if WoW stores settings differently for individual user accounts. When I loaded WoW the first time I turned everything in the graphics to high, turned on every effect, etc. Maybe that's a problem, and maybe they're turned off when she's on her account (I can't imagine Blizzard taking the trouble to take Windows XP users into account though)
Other than video settings, I haven't adjusted anything else in the game. Not sound, UI, keys, or anything.
I have had it for about a week now and I have never had a system crash. There was one time when the server crashed. I have also turned up my video settings to the highest available and i am still not having any problems.

Well this isn't a system crash or blue screen or anything, just the game crashes and it pops up their little bug report. I've seen the server kick me out just once so far, but otherwise all crashes have been on my side.
ok... I have not gotten any games crashes either. I dont know if it makes a difference but i am using a nvidia 5600.

Ferret -
Did you install Cosmos UI? I've had it crash twice on me because of that, but that's all it has done. Try uninstall/reinstall if nothing else. Could be corrupted on your profile.

Nope, using the default UI. I haven't installed anything extra.. All default except for the graphics settings.

Ferret, do you and Kamie have profiles? Different ones?
Does your perchance have Visual Studio or something in the paths?
I've discovered that when this is the case, massive ammounts of ramdomness occur (people have DLLs in their path's which conflict in subtle ways)

Yes, I do have Visual Studio installed. Yes, we have seperate users in Windows XP. But it was crashing for her today as well.

You can always try to partition a section of your HD off for Visual Studio itself, or uninstall/reinstall both and have VS install after WoW.
I hate memory write problems. It's annoying to diagnose.

I'm no pro but that line looks wrong to me. It should be 45, not 44.

I think it could be your video settings. I had the same problem when I was in Beta and had to switch up some of the graphic settings. For instance, I could never get in the Undercity without it pulling up a screen like that. Then again, I have an integrated graphics card (damn you Dell for no AGP slot!!!). I mostly kept the graphics on low after that, no death effect, etc., but I'm sure you don't have to go to the extreme. Just lower it a bit, maybe change the resolution to 800x600. I would also crash when my video card overheated. It would not be able to handle the graphics and freeze up, but I didn't get the error report for that one. Hope that's the problem and it works out!

I've started playing and I had about 6 crashes in 4 hours. I read your comments Princess and tweaked with my graphics, but to no avail.
Most (say, 5 out of 6) of my issues where with math.c so figure its a calculation gone wild issue.
