I'm wondering if I should worry about trying to find a place to rent it today after work.

anyone play it yet, and can say if it's worth the hassle of, like, leaving my house?

Picked it up a couple days ago, would've posted sooner but...

the game is so amazing I simply couldn't stop even to post! Seriously skip the rental and just buy it. Its the prettiest game I've ever seen, controls are great. I've spent at least an hour just free-running like one of those cooky russian kids on youtube. I think they were russian. Anyway Assassin's Creed is easily the best game I've played in a while, even better than Bioshock and COD4. Buy it!

I'm playing it and its great. I wish I had a high def tv to play it on, but eh its fun. The controls are not that hard to learn. I'm not sure why it was said to be a steep learning curve. I guess for the gaming illiterate. But overall the story is fairly original, and provides a reason to want to play. The enviorment is cool and is just a nice place to explore.

I only put in about 2 hours.. Need to finish my finals, but yea this is pretty cool. I recommend checking it out.

Combat becomes much more awesome once you learn counter moves (after the first assassination).

How ironic they would put 'life' in the title...

Now stay on topic! Assassin's Creed = GOTY. **** Crysis only rich kids can play it on GOTY settings, that doesnt count.

yeah, I rented this on friday and will have to say I was pleasantly surprised. From all the reviews etc, I really thought this was going to be a great concept with terrible execution.

Granted, after the 45+ minutes of intro, the game got really good. It gives a little bit of the Grand Theft Auto vibe, with the open ended cities and avoiding guards etc.

I have been the most impressed with their detail and modelling of the city, and how you interact with everything so cleanly. If there is a piece of tile jutting out, you can grab on to it etc. They obviously spent a lot of time crafting this game.

Anyway, buy it? I doubt it, as I'll be finished by the end of today, and then mass effect tomorrow. But it was sure as heck worth the 8 bucks for the rental.

On my 8th target, it's alright but some aspects I really dislike, I think I'd rate it a 7/10:

+beautiful environments, minimal loading hitches (compared to *cough*MassEffect's*cough)
+cool animations (particularly the horses and countermoves)

-hard to cancel out of combat to, you know, RUN AWAY. Yeah I know about the switch to make it so holding LT holds the lock or not, but who really wants to hold onto it for so long? I guess my main gripe is that the lock changes context to switch targets in battle - when it SHOULDN'T, and retain the lock/unlock aspect.
-Camera gets annoying sometimes
-Why give me all my moves at the beginning of the game... THEN TAKE THEM AWAY?

Ok, admittedly those are minor interface/controls nitpicks, so I'll end with the last main negative for me:

-Every bloody mission is the same thing, it gets tiring from mission 2 to 9 =(

What? I never had an issue unlocking targets to run away. I must be amazing.

yeah, it would be annoying sometimes to run away, especially if you are surrounded and/or getting knocked down, but I never found it to be troublesome to a fault. I mean, you probably wouldn't want to turn your back to sword wielding soldiers much anyway. I also really like them throwing rocks at you when you try to climb away. A really nice touch.

It is amazing but the ending is confusing and not satisfying at all. Still worth playing though.

I heard the ending is better if you watch through the credits...

This game, more than Halo 3 and anything else I've seen come out, makes me want a 360 really bad...

between halo 3, AC, Dead Rising and Mass Effect, the 360 has certainly given me it's money's worth.

for the PC too?

yeah

4 new plasmids all for 1 adam a piece

one shoves your enemy and anything near by back. the range isnt too far but it does hurt em pretty good, especially if you knock one enemy into another. Telekinesis is is far more effective in the case however.

other ones reduce costs of items and vending machines, let you do more dmg to cameras turrets and bots, and theres another one but i forgot what it does

I just finished this game today.

It was a fun ride, and I really enjoyed the game. The game is beautiful, as most of you have already stated, even on my old tube tv.

I liked the controls, except in the boat assassination level where jumping from peg to peg was required. I found the controls a bit confusing in terms of where you were facing, and which was a bit tricky.

I thought the AI was pretty good overall, however there were some problems for sure. In that same level, when you are killing the guy who retreats to his boat, you are able to sneak on to the boat prior to him being there and slaughter his guards. I did that, and ran quickly to him and entered the assassination memory. He made it back to the boat with his dead guards still lying on the group - yet he was not set off. He just walked around them. Needless to say, without his guards causing some trouble, the kill was quick and easy.

Overall, it was a 39.99 best buy special that was great fun and a definite buy.

What did you think of the ending?

I actually was confused by the ending and intrigued at the same time.

I'm replaying the first two kills, because I didn't do all the good stuff I could have. I didn't do all the interigations and such. So I'm going back to do it again.

I think the most confusing part is why they make you watch the end credits everytime you reenter the game.

Is there anything past the wall above your bed besides 20 minutes of scrolling credits and then finally an opportunity to re-enter the animus?

I wish dude - but unfortunately I don't make enough money for that yet. I'm just a lowly tech who works for a utility that makes 100 million a month. It's not like we're big or anything, so they don't have the money to pay the guys like me.

I also drive 100km each way to work each day...by choice of course. So gas can be an issue.

But I have a good pension...think I can get a tv with that money? LOL.

yes... i'm sure you will win...

and as far as the HDMI/component is concerned, doesn't really make a difference on my 360. It still looks bloody amazing. At least on my rear projection LCD, I see no noticable difference between HDMI and component.
