my brothers X-Box 360 crashed yesterday. apparantly there is a widespread problem with the 360 overheating and crashing to the point where it wont even turn on. he said that microsoft has extended the one year warranty to three years because of this issue. if it happens to you apparantly you can only send it back to microsoft and it will take a minimum of three weeks to get it back.
i dont ever read this section so i dont know if yall have already discussed this. just thought i would bring it up for you 360 owners since i dont have one yet.

Fortunately my 360 is good. Before I even used it though, i bought not only the intercooler, but a stand with some more cooling fans in it. so now the airflow is ubermaximized. I hope the xbox lasts... i cant afford to have to replace it and I'd go though withdrawl having to send it back and wait for it.

My X360 got one today.
Here's a question. Is the hard drive considered an "accessory?" I.E. do i send that back with the console.

You do NOT send that back with the console, only the unit itself. You keep everything else (including the power cords I believe).

I'm currently on my 2nd 360. 1st one red-ringed over a year ago and I just bought a core system and popped the HD in there. Been fine since. (knock on wood...)
Actually, I have been wanting a sexy new black 360... COME ON RED RING!!!!

Just bought a 360 Pro (that's the new middle-ground with 20gb + HDMI + better heat craps)... it's supposedly red-ring-proof but we'll see.

I got my 360 on P3 launch day and it hasn't RROD me yet, still not even a year old.

The colored ring around the power button turns red, indicating an error.

I went into a Walmart and the xbox 360 on display had RROD. I lol'd. Probably not the best way to convince people to buy the system.

That doesn't mean anything. Mine RROD'ed me on day one... I just didn't realize what the **** it meant before my two year old nephew saw a blinking red light turned the thing off. He turned it off before I could even count how many red lights there were. Ran fine since then, now it's doing it all the time.
Also, Why would you get a sexy black one if you RROD'ed? They have 3 year warranties on an RROD. Unless that's what they are giving for factory replacements, and all I have to say to that is SWEET!

RROD == overheating, the motherboard warped due to heat and causes the heatsink on the CPU to pop off.
The enclosed XBox 360 in those displays isn't helping the situation any either =)

No, pretty sure it'd be the same ugly white one. But any excuse to purchase the black one works for me...

Ah. Honestly, I'd be overjoyed if the one they send back has HDMI. But that's me.
My first 360 died with a RRoD.
My 2nd one is freezing after 5 minutes of playing a game. being in the dashboard or watching a movie is fine. Microsoft is telling me my warranty has expired but i've faxed them my store receipt and they said they would call me. It's been 2 weeks and no news. Everytime I call they keep saying it's not their department and someone will call me back asap.
I heard that after 3 repairs they send you back a new xbox!
360 is great. Support sucks ass.

Well, has it been 90 days since the last service?
No matter if it's in warranty or not, you have a full 90 days after a warranty repair.

Oh. Had to try. :D
Well, if it goes in this time under Warranty, you'd get an additional 90 days on the warranty. Which really, I think is only proper.
