lundquist sat out I think 5 games before the playoffs started. He started the last regular season game though. THe Rangers however lost their last five regualr season games and the Devils I think won their last 11 regular season games. That means the Rangers, without their goalie and best player, and who are one a seven game losing streak, need to win four out of five against their rival devils, a team that has won 13 in a row.

Ouch.

i would be happy see to buffalo take it all. Seeing how the wild did not make the playoffs. As far as kovalev with the best wrist shot. he has a really good one , but personaly i will go with gaborik with one of the best if not the best wrist shot. he can get the wrist shot off so fast and accurate its scary. With his blazing speed and that shot i am going to give it to him.

SavaThePriest

I'm torn about that series.

If calgary wins, then a Battle of Alberta takes place. However, if they lose, ALL of the western first rounds are upset - teams 1, 2 and 4 are already out. I don't know if that's happened before, as I sure don't remember it.

Ness

Did I ever mention they didn't make those facts? I said that the PLANE TAKING OFF was a bad simile and that the CBC announcers are retarded as they act smart saying "shot from 48 feet out", as illistrated in Stillman's OT winner over Montréal.

Never stated Edmonton was not the loudest, never said the CBC announcers "pull info out of their ass".

Let's end this fun, meaningful argument and say this "Edmonton has a loud arena, among, if not the top in the league"

I never said that myself. I played the odds and took some Detroit players in my pool, but I know that Edmonton has a good team, and that Detroit has a slight history of choking in the first round.

I also did other research, although Detroit was in first place in the league by far, they also played the 3 worst teams in the league a total of 24 times. So Detroit did have a bit of an easy schedule.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for Edmonton, but I don't see them taking down San Jose.

Actually it went off his skate, but he was pushed into the net by the Detroit player, and there was no kicking action.

However the play SHOULD have been called dead due to high sticking the puck, but that's the way it goes.

Realistically Detroit blew a 2-0 lead and deserved to lose. When will teams learn that you cannot sit on a lead in the playoffs, Buffalo seems to be the only team that has learned that you have to keep taking it to the other team 100% all game. In game 7 did Buffalo coast after the were up 4-0? **** no, the kept hammering at the Flyers. Teams that try to coast with a 2-0 or 3-0 lead always get bit in the ass.

Anyways yay for Edmonton, they are a good team and i bet they go through the 2nd round now. :p

They have lots of momentum too, after beating the best team in the league after the regular season. Although I feel they had the edge going into that series because they had been playing "playoff" hockey for over a month now, just striving to get into the playoffs. And now that they've made it they are already running at full steam, I look for them to go far.

SkifF
05-08-2006, 09:29 AM
I'd actually like to see a stat on the amount of Penalties called compared to other years. Seems to me like there's plenty of penalties being called, and a lot of them for the new rules.

The way I see it the refs must be doing something right. Buffalo and Ottawa are not gritty teams, they're fast teams. They both played teams that were grittier then they are. In previous years in the playoffs, the grittier team generally wins in the first round. But this year both Buffalo and Ottawa seemed to have a relativly easy time dispatching thier opponents. In my opinion the only way Buffalo scores 7 goals on the grittier Flyers is if the refs are doing thier jobs. Buffalo is far faster team and was able to exploit Philly's lack of speed.

From a neutral standpoint (I say that cause my team was at no point ever in the playoffs) the refs are doing a good job and the teams with speed are able to use it to thier full potential. Which makes me glad the Leafs didn't get into the playoffs because they're slower then Molasses.

Fist
05-08-2006, 10:03 AM
I am not debating the number of penalties, but rather the quality of it.

In some games it feels like refs calls penalties for nothing every 2-3 minutes. But in other games, even easy-to-call and clear penalties don't get called

Think Saku Koivu receiving a stick in his eye and being out of the playoffs because he still cannot see properly and the guy didnt even get a penalty. The ref said he didnt see the stick even tho he was 5 feet away and there was blood on the ice. Yes I'm an Habs fan but stuff like that leave me pretty sad at this *NEW* NHL. Yes there's more goals but penalties are randoms.

What I want is that they call every single penalty. I know they're human and can't do it perfectly, but being closer to the NBA or NFL on penalties would be better imo.

SkifF
05-08-2006, 10:21 AM
I can see how the Saku Koivu penalty could have been missed; it happened so fast. The ref can't call it just because there was blood, he has to see it happen.

But there was ANOTHER high stick by the same guy in the next game that SHOULD have been caught in OT. It wasn't all the fast happening, and it happend at center ice.

As stated, I personally think the refs are doing a good job overall. and they still screw up pretty large in the NBA and NFL *cough* Ben Rothlisbergers SB rushing TD *cough* :D

Fist
05-08-2006, 11:18 AM
Hehe Saku didn't hurt himself in the eye. Everyone knew what happened, therefore a penalty should have been called. I know it wasn't intentional, but its a simple rule in the NHL. Anyways, my gripe is about the refs not calling every penalty. That is all. I don't like the random factor.

Although SJ is up 2-0, they're entering what is going to be the hardest part of thier series. They have to go into Edmonton and win against a desperate Oilers team. If SJ wants to win this series quick and easy, the HAVE to take 1 of 2 in Edmonton or else its gonna be a war down the stretch.

I gotta say though, the hitting in this series is top notch. Solid, clean bodychecks. Although its not high scoring, this series is one of the most entertaining. Regardless of where Edmonton ends up at the end of this years playoffs, they HAVE to be happy with the play of Rolosson, who has kept them in more games then they can count. I honestly thought he would be thier weakest link and he's been the strongest.

praNx
05-09-2006, 07:00 PM
During some of the periods the Oilers performance is great, however once we need to get a goal in the third period we dont have that determination to get that goal. I will admit, the oilers are looking good and have the advantage, but they havn't won yet. Just as easily as they went from being down 2-0 to being in the lead 3-2, it can all turn around. Sometimes that last game is the hardest to get.

As for Edmonton, I was expecting Smyth to lead the team, guess hes doin an alright job. Just not as good as I had expected, and Roloson is finally playing decent hockey... not that I like him or anything cause I dont, I just want Edmonton to win

But that's the difference between this year and a few years ago. The ducks this year have ALOT more then just a hot goalie.

If Neidermeyer stops playing like a sissy, they could really have something going there.

So? That's the same for Edmonton they r way different than a few years ago. They also have a great defensive core starting with Pronger and Jason Smith. As for Peca we thought he would have more fire power, but he is doing a great job defensively leading our team, alongside Pronger. Also we now have 2 pretty good lines adding Samsonov to our team. Not only that we now have Roloson in net and he is doing a great job stopping the puck.

If Edmonton does make it past San Jose, I think the Ducks and Edmonton will be pretty evenly matched, because of the extremely similar game we play.

Well now that they butt****ed my chances of winning the office pool, I can now cheer for them.

They played a solid series and as I said before, San Jose needed to take 1 of 2 in Edmonton and they didn't. Edmonton has really suprised me, and I hope they can keep it up. I honestly didn't think they had what it took to take San Jose down, and they did, and did it well.

A Buffalo vs. Edmonton final I think would be great. Two teams at the begining of the season that weren't supposed to make the Playoffs, or go deep in the playoffs in the final. I think the 4 teams left go to show that there was some good from the lockout and this truly is a new NHL.

They're just like every other Cinderella team. Make it to the finals, fail. Let's recap:

1997- Washington made it to cup finals - failed to make playoffs next 3 years
2002- Carolina made it to cup finals - Failed to make the playoffs until 2006
2003- Anahiem made it to cup finals - Failed to make playoffs until 2006
2004- Calgary made it to cup finals - Great regular season, lost in first round

Not saying Edmonton sucks. I wouldn't care if they won or not. I think they'll make to to cup finals and lose to the east team. Carolina or Buffalo will win it all. Probably Buffalo.

I also like how you needlessly quoted me =p.

I dont know, i think it will be a coin flip between Buffalo and Edmonton. They both play the speed forcheck kind of game. So i think it would get seriously intense.

Coinflip with both sides being Buffalo! OH! Clever.

No, seriously. Ottawa was a better team than Edmonton and they got beat in 5. That's no coinflip. This argument should stop now, with me winning =p

Edmonton has a serious problem: lots of players are infected with a virus and they never really know which ones will be able to play or will have to rest. Few players said during interviews that if it was regular season, at least 10+ players would not play for a few games.

I hope they can win 2 more matches tho. Would be really cool to have a Stanley Cup final Edmonton vs Buffalo.

As a side note, any of you guys following the Memorial Cup? Since my home city is Quebec, i'm cheering for the Remparts for sure! ;)

Touche!

Anywayz Ottawa is just a skilled team, they need the style of some gritty players that needs to work hard for their goals. Its not our fault that Ottawa is bad in the playoffs and loses in the early rounds every year.

Ness

It's really easy to blame Conklin, the new guy, but has anyone critised Smith? There was no communication between both of them, but Conklin takes the blame because he's easier to pick on vs the captian.

If Roloson played game 2, they would have lost either way. If he played in game 1, they would have lost, Carolina had all the momentum etc.
