I realized there is not a poetry thread, so I figured I'd make one. Feel free to post any poetry you've written or that you like.
I was writing a bit of poetry for this 24-hour long poetry festival thing on my campus and felt like posting it. So here goes some work by Oreo that ISN'T a cs map, lol.
Opportunity
I am a chameleon.
Pleasantly perched on my leaf.
My skin clad like that around me,
So no one passing will pick me out of the scenery.
I find my food easily enough.
I fight my battles diligently.
I am self sustaining.
I feel no need to disrupt my peaceful life.
Life is good.
A movement draws the twitch of my eye.
A cute girl draws near bearing a net.
I have not been spotted,
Yet.
I have heard of this before! Yes!
Children abducting my chameleon friends.
They take them home.
They take them to paradise.
Food is supplied.
No battles surmise.
No longer is the need to be self sustaining.
Companionship every day.
Life could be great.
However, this girl could be cruel.
Not feed me, twist and pull at me.
Forget about me until I whither,
Living my life alone in her cage.
Life could be horrible.
The girl draws near,
As does the choice.
My skin remains clad like that around me.
She does not pick me out of the scenery.
She moves on, out of my life.
What have I done?
This girl who would have loved me,
And taken care of me.
I let slip by, not allowing myself to be noticed.
My skin remains blended.
No one else passes by.
I continue to find my own food.
I continue to fight my own battles.
I continue to be self sustaining.
I continue to live my life quietly alone.
Life is good, but it might have been great.
