I'm on Shiva, I'm starting a BLM tonight, because I am kinda stuck with warrior and I like being a mage better. If you ever make a new char, tell me and I can try to get you a world pass so you can join up on Shiva.

Don't they charge you for each character you have?

jvenom

pay-to-play = the most tarded idea for games...ever

50 for the game, 40-60 (rough estimte) per month for the connection and another 15-20/month for THEIR fees

I find the whole thing compleatly absurd

Well when they are constantly running servers for everyone all around the world with no lag or down time.. I'm sure it costs money. Thousands or people still play it, so why not take the money.

Hate to break it to you, but online gaming is eventually going to be MOSTLY pay to play. Bandwidth costs and hardware costs have to be offset.

Games like STEAM and such don't really cause the owner much because the actual game servers are hosted by non-company employees, like myself.

But when you're talking games like Everquest, the company pretty much has to operate a data center just for that game. There's huge costs involved in that, and of course if you're making money, you're going to aim for a profit.

Put it this way. A 16 player counter-strike server, full 24/7, uses roughly 200gigs of bandwidth. Now think about Everquest. Far more bandwidth intensive, SEVERAL thousand players, full all the time. You're talking a SHIT load of bandwidth.

Datacenters takes millions to run. That money has to come from somewhere.

I dont think you can rightfully include connection in that :P and their fees are only $10 in this game :X And you get a free month... there arnt many $50 single player games that I buy that I play for more than 1 month anyways...

I know, and most likely this is the futur of online gameing, but I still hate the idea of haveing to pay a subscription for a game I have already bought once

and how can you NOT include connection costs, its part of the upkeep to allow you to acctuly be able to PLAY the game in the 1st place

No, its not. Chances are you had internet BEFORE hand. All your non-pay-to-play games also require internet for multiplayer.

Started out on Shiva, but then wanted to try a black mage. The worldpass jvenom gave me though expired so I got mad and went and played CoH.

I've got a level 5 warrior right now in FFXI, I'm sure I'll play it some more this week.

ferret, go back to the shiva one, you just have to go to your mog house to change your job.

I don't want to change the job of that character. I've got two content ids :) I need another world pass so I can put second character in Shiva.

Got bored or simply sucked?

After level 50, you either have to be really lucky or have a static party to get anywhere.

ds91

I stopped playing too. 50+ leveling takes a hell of a long time and it can be very difficult to find a group.

CranialFluids

I never played because of the pay to play thing.

However, I'd really like to know if the game was made well. MMO FF seems like a cool idea, but is it anything more than just a glorified Diablo or EQ?
