Who am I? "Not Douglas Adams" is the answer that concerns most people. So with this in mind let’s proceed. Here are some of the questions I imagine most fans of the book (and the radio series and the TV series and the Infocom game) are asking at this point.

WHO THE H*#&! ARE YOU AND WHAT GIVES YOU THE RIGHT TO MUCK AROUND WITH THIS TREASURED PIECE OF LITERATURE, YOU AMERICAN HOLLYWOOD HACK?

oh my fooking god. How crazy, I dreamt I was Arthur Dent and my legs were drifting off into the sunset last night.

Anything Douglas Adams did turned out to have a cult spawned from it.

Grant/Naylor (Authors of the Red Dwarf series are just under Douglas Adams on my list of authors whose work I'll read over anyone elses).

If I can find them, I'll put the Hitch Hikers guide to the galaxy up in MP3 format (From the radio 2 play)

The DVD is also fun, albeit it very early 80s in production quality.

Anyone with 1/2 a braincell should find the humor fun and decidedly topical regardless of the fact its 20 odd years old.

I highly recommend you either watch the DVD or read the books. That way you might start understanding me some more so I don't feel like a mongey all the time (except Wednesdays. I never did quite get the hang of Wednesdays)

Hmm actually, I might just broadcast it at you instead and save myself the blushes of filesharing woes (broadcasting privately is a different kettle of fish) :oops:

Spurty, having read the books when they were still coming "hot off the press" back in the early 80's I would like to make one suggestion and one plea:

Suggestion: Do not watch the DVD if it's the "broadcast on BBC" made for TV movie. It's lame and fails to capture the real essence of the storyline and character development. READ THE BOOKS. They are short, and hilarious. Especially the way later books reference seemingly insignificant occurrences from the earlier books in much more significant ways. ("Petunias?")

Plea: I'd love to hear the MP3's of the original radio show. If you can find a way to get them to me, I can more easily make them available to our North American friends who want a listen. (I operate dozens of servers and am not charged for bandwidth use.)

Agreed .. about two weeks for slow readers like myself and the description of the ship they steal is sheer genius (not so very well pulled of in the 1980s tv production) however Douglas Adams does manage to get himself into the credits (he is the guy running into the sea)

Was out of stock when I ordered and will get getting my sister to ftp the contents to myself the second I write the incredibly detailed e-mail as to how exactly she is going to realise this technological achievement (Or is it going to be a Disaster Area?)

Easy suggestion. I notice you have AIM and I'm assuming your sister does also. Have her just send you the stuff through AIM. It's so easy, my syster can do it.

~600 MB thru AIM? I don't think so. Besides, it's sure to set off some kind of piracy alarms over at AOL.

My friend bought a 4 season boxed set for Red Dwarf.

I have not heard from him since.

laugh, Red Dwarf is also AWESOME and strangly, the tv series does an excellent job of portraying the humor.

I love the episode where they appear in 'Nodnol' (Pay attention to the cat going to the bathroom).

I'll say no more ...

DCC via AIM ? I think I'd sooner put holes in my head with a spoon.

FTP = drag and drop for her.
AIM = evil and wrong.

I only have AIM as I needed it to contact an IRC retard. Now it just kinda sits there. I try to ignore it (I note I have missed three chances to have dinner at a friends now I check).

Thanks for the audio files. It's giving me something to listen to during work other than crappy Classic Rock or crappy Pop-Country.

Question: what's with the CD1 and CD2? Neither is large enough to fill a CD on it's own, but CD1 is way too big to fill a single audio CD.

[gh]Spurty

Well, the cd 1 reads - 'Primary and Secondary Phases' where as cd 2 reads - Douglas Adams guide to the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy'

CD1 = HHGTG
CD2 = Commentary

Bloody excellent of the BBC to ship the CDS off in MP3 format if you ask me :)

Too bad it wasn't just zipped up... but wget's "-m" flag gets around that easily.

Thanks, Spurty!

Is there a way to not listen to it in 2 minute segments but rather whole? You might be shocked but I have never read or heard The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and would like to give it a try.

can i assume that they are multiple files? 2 min each?

perhaps you can make a playlist in winamp, or wimdows media, just line them up in order... hit play, make sure shuffly and fade is off.

A teaser is up:
http://hitchhikers.movies.go.com/index.html

What's with the logo change? Where's the goofy face sticking it's tongue out at me?

I have gone through the mp3's Spurty poseted twice now. Awesome. I had a guy at work listen to them this week and he thought it was nuts. My friend should be giving me my book back sometime next week (it's been over 12 months now...), so I'm happy about that.

Has anyone been listening to the new radio broadcasts? I haven't pulled them up yet. Are they any good? I believe I'm going to wait til the show finishes and I can purchase a copy and listen to them all at that point.

Arthur Dent is the guy from 'The Office' and 'Shaun of the Dead' and 'Love Actually' and probably some other things.

Not sure about the twist with Ford and Trillian not having blonde hair but I'm sure it'll work fine

With the radio show and the TV series and the books and the special edition LPs that came out not matching up with each other in terms of content and such, I am not concerned about what they "left in" or "cut out." As long as the movie has the same wit and comeditc (styling/pacing/style/etc), then I'll be happy.
