no, don't have to DL if you get it from a store. I think they are gonna let DLs play it first though.

I agree. I started my preloading mine this morning around 6.25EST before I left for work. Started without a problem (last night it was pretty congested).

sorry to burst all your bubbles but this preload everyone and their dumbass momma is ranting about is nothing more then textures and sound and little things like sprites that are finalized, i believe the word they like to use is assets. you wont get to play HL2 before anyone else this is just so that valve can save on bandwidth on the day hl2 is released and they have a million people bombarding their servers on the day it gets released.

knowing this it makes me quite annoyed to see 10000000 threads on steampowered forums for the past 3 weeks all with the title "$#%#$% valve wheres my ^%&%^$@&%#& preload? %&^&^%&%"

its like who gives a shit when the preload is you still wont be playing it for X amount of days/weeks/months

I dont think anyone disagrees with you on this. However its part of the hype. Let people download it, I know I dont expect to play the game early. To tell u the truth by the time HL2 gets releases ill probably be deep into the xbox game "Fable".

I have downloaded all my sprites .. if nothing else, it lets me know that I can load the game on my hard drive :-)

I think with this preload that hl2 will be out real soon, like 2 weeks soon.

gabe said that hl2 will take about 3 gigs on your hard drive, and since theres 2 gigs sitting on my hard drive now that means the game is almost DONE!@!!!!

plus theres that australian magazine scan i saw stating that hl2 was done in their next issue hitting stands on sept 22nd.

Just in case no one knows yet, the 3rd preload started today....like 5 hours ago or so. good luck getting it though. you should just wait a week like when my cable went out last thursday and i couldnt get the preload till wednesday.
